Cheapest (while still reliable) would probably be either:
05+ subaru legacy 2.5GT Mazdaspeed3 Both of these should be mid-teens with say 40k miles. Something like a Miata or S2000 would be fun, but couldn't really be a good daily driver if it was your only car. A 2001 Audi S4 would be a blast, but it could turn into a money trap pretty quick, so I am not sure I would that as a DD.

What is it about the GTI for you? I remember looking at the R32 back in the day and it was a cool little car. What puts the GTI above the MCS for you? Just curious, I haven't looked at the new one very closely.

GT500. Out of the box it doesnt feel much diffrent then a regular gt in terms of power. But throw a tune, pulleys, long tubes, catback, and you are good to go . Will easily keep up with/beat c6 z06s for a lot less money. And lets be honest.. Looks badass

Exciting to me means grins. I got more grins out of my old 280Z and 320i than I did with my 335. Most car brands have lost their soul IMO.

Def out of all the American muscle cars, I like the Shelby GT500 the best. Way better looking than the new camaro or challenger.... And they added 40 hp to the new 2010 model!
