Lotus!? what, the Exige S? I get that they are a really fun car but they are only like 240bhp, I know they are like 2077lbs cw, but they are base at $65,000.00.
Doesn't fit the criteria.
Not trying to bust your balls but just doesn't work.
And youve get $30K to spend, and it can be USED...

it's all good man, just throwing something else out there. just trying to show him there is more then just hp. You can find them used, just not gonna be 100% for 30k.

I mean we can get him a 5000 lb tank with 400hp or a 2000 lb with 200hp.
but i digress if his first priority was 400whp... then this is the first requirement.

ppp

p.s. my balls were busted a long time ago... I'm married.

Base A4 2.0T Quattro. Stage III APR good for around 375 HP. Probably one of the more cost effective ways of doing it.

944 Turbo or 1st gen NSX. I'm pretty sure either of them can do 400whp for under $30k.

1) turbo Z3 M Coupe b/c it is the best blend of characteristics you're seeking
M/T - yes
looks nice - yes
classy - yes
fun to drive - yes

2) MKIV Supra Turbo, b/c it needs the fewest bolt-ons to achieve 400whp
M/T - yes
looks nice - yes
classy - from the outside yes, from the inside perhaps - some will hate the materials quality, others will love the ergonomics and the fact that its completely focused on the driver
fun to drive - yes

3) C5 Z06, b/c it needs as few bolt-ons as the Supra to achieve 400whp
M/T - yes
looks nice - yes
classy - from the outside yes, from the inside no
fun to drive - yes

4) turbo e36 M3
M/T - yes
looks nice - yes
classy - from the outside yes, from the inside maybe - while it is a luxurious interior, it is extremely dated in comparison to newer BMWs and luxury cars in general
fun to drive - yes

my list would go on, but i just got lazy...

...i see the e39 M5 is a popular choice here. but there are 3 reasons i didn't include in my list. 1) it is quite unreliable and maintenance costs will be a bitch (not that it was one of the OP's requirements, but nobody wants to deal with THAT much maintenance). 2) if it isn't 100% up to par (in other words, if any little thing is wrong with it), it will run like a 300hp car or less, not a 400hp car. and 3) while you can get one in a M/T, it looks nice both inside and out, and is classy as hell, i question how fun it is to drive. don't get me wrong, i've driven one and loved it...for a boat that is. in comparison to some of the other potential cars being mentioned in this thread, the M5 turns and handles about as well as the Titanic.

1.Stage 3 B5 S4. However it's it's a hit or miss.
2. GT3071R 2.0T A4
3.Twin turbo 350Z or single turbo(harder to do)

IMO fun to drive doesn't go along with luxury. I mean a 400+whp ride will be loud and stiff. It will need a stiff suspension big brakes etc. Beside the current E60 M5 not many cars can do that. I suggest going towards STI/EVO.Whenever I hear that they're kids car I laugh. They carry a hefty price tag to start with. I doubt many teenagers can afford by working part-time at burger king. Even if you find a 400+hp luxury car it will never be the same as a genuine sports car. My other suggestion is what about getting 2 cars. Drive a luxury(semi-luxury)as a daily and a sports car as the week end warrior(1st gen viper, 911). Personally I'd rather have a Lotus and a used A4/3er than just having an M5. That way you won't get tired of the car as quickly as if it was a daily driver.

I'm not a 335 owner but 135 and I'm planning to move on to a used Z4M coupe and a B7 A4(base 2.0TQ) as a daily driver.

MK4 Supra Turbo ....that is if you can find one that hasn't been modded...and if you do find one, they may have low miles and a high price tag.
