The Genesis 2.0T would shit all over the other cars mentioned.

Hyundai is really stepping their game up, props.

I don't know if your friend has an opinion on gas mileage but most sources say the RX-8 gets very poor gas mileage and burns a lot of oil relative to V6/any other common engines. A small car would be best for autox, such as the ones others have suggested.

I used to average about 19mpg in mine, its a fairly thirsty design but not excessive. Uses about a quart every 3,000 miles by design so an extra couple of bucks every few months. Its not a car you can just ignore. If he likes the 8 have him do some reading on rx8club.com and get a feel for it before he buys. Depreciation on them is huge so go used.

If your friend likes to mod the genesis 2.0 track version (coming out soon) is cheaper around 23k but has all the go fast goodies and can be tuned up for good power.

Unless you go FI on the rx8 there is very little performance mods available.

I think I'd prefer a mazda speed 6 over an rx-8. Your buddy should check them out as well..

i'll tell you a guilty pleasure of mine is the mazda speed3, though i have never driven one, they look nice, get rave reviews and can bee had fully loaded with nav for under 25k right now due to this dwindling economy of ours

For that price? A used car. Which one depends on what's available locally.
