The way it works is there is a small box that the hot and cold water from the house is connected to via braided hoses. And there's two small turbines inside that generate electric when you open the valve and water starts flowing.

When the hot water valve is opened, the color is red to indicate it's HOT, open the cold water and it's blue, cool water.
Turn both of them on, they blend according to the temp of the water, and becomes purple for warm, or more towards the red for warm-hot side.

Pretty cool, I believe they got a award for being 'green' with that design.

Yet I looked at the price in getting one of those...about $2,300
