Any premium Four Wheel Drive - A little out of my budget and I just can't give up sports car handling and acceleration.
I keep looking at the X6 (a little too expensive - $100K for the 3litre here), X5 (same issue - $100K for the 4.8i) RR Sport - Handling and cost - $90K here FX35 - Could be the next car. Handles beautifully, sweet interior and the looks are growing on me. |

LOL, that's funny, he's my unicorn too:
...no seriously, i can't really give a straight answer since my "unicorn" has changed so many times over the course of my life. but ever since i was a youngster i've had a major infatuation with Lamborghini Diablo's, particularly these: Diablo 6.0: Diablo GT: Diablo GTR: ...as far as more realistic "dream" cars go, i suppose either the e46 M3 or the 993/996 Carrera were just out of my financial reach when i was in the market for a new ride 3 years ago. but by the time either of them came within my reach, i had stumbled across something better/rarer/worthier of "unicorn" status: ...so i guess now that i have her, she's no longer technically my unicorn. but i'm content now that i have acquired at least one of my unicorns.

+1 good call!
the Z3 M Coupe is definitely a "unicorn"...of course its not so much a unicorn to me anymore b/c i get to drive my brother's quite often: ...its definitely one of the rarest, most head-turning, and controversial designs ever conceived.

Aston Martin Vanquish
I could care less if it's the pinnacle of performance, or even if it's reliable. It's visual perfection. I can count on 1 hand the times I've seen a Vanquish in person... and each time I love it more

Right now I would say the new Lambo LP670 SV is my unicorn. It doesn't look so hot in still photos, but in motion it's incredible.

+1. anything Aston Martin makes is visual perfection...even the non-flagship models (DB7, DB9, AMV8)...and of course the new flagship, the DB-S. and while they all look very similar (Aston Martin has not made any major revisions to their body styling in quite some time), they are all so close to perfection its ridiculous.

E46 M3.
I was in love with this car for quite some time. Eventually, it all came down to the E46 M3 or my E92 335xi, and obviously I chose the latter. There's that golden rule you are never suppose to break: Never ever meet your child hood heroes. They are much better in your dreams. The sound and looks of the M3 (esp. the CSL) I have always dreamed of but I dare not even test drive the thing. The disappointment would sure be a major let down. Therefore I got the 335xi instead. Very VERY happy of course!

interesting philosophy though...i suppose if i didn't want to take the chance of ruining a childhood dream for fear that it might not be as exhilarating as i built it up to be, then i'd be afraid to test drive one as well. however, unless you're only interested in the benefit of low-rpm torque for daily driving situations, or straight-line speed, i highly doubt that the e46 M3 is going to disappoint...coming from a 335xi anyways. besides, i'm living proof that meeting your childhood dream car isn't always a disappointing experience...in fact, i think i was more impressed with the Supra in reality than i was with her in my dreams. and i have a feeling your possible future "e46 M3 experience" might be the same .
