So the 25 model year has SiC, or ? Because I thought all I5s should have it, and frankly SiC according to manufacturers (like Wolfspeed) give up to 20% range improvement, so this feels... low? Tesla has been using SiC for a while now, partially explaining their superior range. It was known that many are switching to SiC to improve range, so Im surpised how poor the gains are on a BMW. Either BMW is still conservative or who knows, the rest of the tech still very inefficient.

Either way good news of course but Id hoped for a lot more than 30 miles, more like 60 would have been good. Perhaps 60 is what it is but BMW is holding back for battery longevity.

20% sounds….huge. That would imply that the current car would be losing 20% of its battery power to the inverter alone which seems somehow unlikely? This whole package of changes (SiC inverter + bearings + aero wheels + low RR tires) adds up to ~10% together per the PR, presumably measured under some sort of optimal set of driving conditions.

They should have stayed with the anodized switchgear like the previous gen 7-series & X7 had.

Anything 5 series and up should come standard with those switches. Feels great on the fingertips.

Changing to SiC invertors has generally netted 7-9% range improvement, so anything above that has to be part of a package of improvments with the magnets, exciters, bearings, aero, low-resistance tires or by increasing the battery size or tuning/reducing the buffer margin, and of course weight. Weight of course is the dodgey one, because a manufacture can either reduce weight with clever redesign or new materials, or by removing the noise insulation.

I don’t know where you got 20% range improvement from Wolfspeed, because when I searched, they only claim 10% which is more inline with what other manufacturers claim.
