At whopping 2200 miles already a check engine light. Hopefully something simple. It's running great.

Did almost 4000km on my 550e touring, big trip to Austria for the ski holiday a few weeks ago. Not had a single problem until now!
Curious what your issue is.

Of course the check engine light went away while I was on my way to the dealer. Dealer found no codes and no problems. He told me sometimes the system cycles and wipes away any glitches on the computer. My car is running great and the check engine light is off so I will just keep an eye on it.

I had something like that happen to me about a month ago. I have my 540i set to start up every workday morning. One time it started, and then shut off right after. When I got to the car it said something like "Conditioning not available at this time" and had a check engine light. I put in my BimmerUtility dongle and looked at the error codes. Then I deleted them and rebooted iDrive. Check engine went away and never came back. I think there are glitches in the code sometimes. It's not unique to it though. I have had similar stuff with my 2013 Range Rover Sport. And other cars as well. As long as the light is amber and not red, it's safe to drive. They usually reset the next time the car is started. Amber ones are usually exhaust related.

That is one gorgeous vehicle, enjoy it in good health! I have had my i5 for close to three months and still love it every time I see it/drive it.

I spent some time on our 550e today, learning many new features. It’s amazing that it can determine tire sizes and even figure out your oil level.

That said, I couldn’t figure out oil or coolant temperatures, something I can easily do on our other vehicles. Am I missing a menu or is this just not available?

I'm looking to replace my 2013 550i. I tend to own cars for a long time as you can see from my F10 550i. I prefer to buy and own 10 years, or more.

That said, how many of you are leasing your 550e vs buying? With more electronics and having both an engine and hybrid battery, I'm afraid it might be costly to maintain past the 3 year mark.

How often do you have to charge the battery and how long does it take to fully charge it with a 240/50amp outlet?

Another question is the 4 wheel steering (Dynamic Handling Pkg). This is what's pushing me towards the 550e over the 540i. The 5 has grown so much in size. The 4 wheel steering only available to the former not the latter, seems to make parking easier and the car more stable at higher speeds. Anyone noticed any significant difference with the 4 wheel steering?

I’m leasing, expecting battery technology to improve over the next three years. But if not and we love it, and the residual value makes sense, I’ll buy it.

The dynamic handling package wasn’t available when we ordered.

It takes about 3 1/2 hours to recharge on a 240/32 amp outlet.

I financed my car and have a 5 year / 75,000 mile warranty and Maintenace plan. By then I will most likely trade it in.

I have a 2025 540iX. The car drives much smaller than it looks. Don't believe me, go to a dealer and test drive one. I wouldn't worry about the DHP thing. I have no problems navigating around close curves, small roundabouts, or narrow streets in southern Spain. To me I see it as another thing to break. If you are truly worried about battery technology, go for the 540, and by the time it's due to replace it, the tech should be mature enough to not be a concern. Or they will do away with it and we'll all be using hydrogen or synthetic fuel anyway.

I think you might be able to get oil temp in the adaptive view when in Sport mode. I’ve got an i5 so I get motor temp instead.

I was in a big hurry to take my Fiance to the airport so I went to sport mode with sport plus powertrain for the first time. Man it is impressive. I find it hard to believe that this B58 version is downtuned because it hauls butt for sure.

It is almost like a different car in this mode. Why this car didn't at least get the semi-M designation (M550e) is beyond me.

So, I guess you got the Ultimate Care +2 which I assume it also extends your warranty to 5 years/75k miles, right?

Yep. My finance guy used monthly coupons to get them discounted.

Did the below change to 60 months and 75,000?

The extended warranty doesn't show on the profile. The ultimate care maintenance plan does. Not sure why but my finance guy says they are active. As long as you have the paperwork you should be good.

Also asked myself this question, when you look at the performance of the 550e you could ask if an upgrade to the M5 (about €50-60k more) is worth the money.
Especially the rolling acceleration is very impressive imo.

For the 550e owners what made you choose over i5 m60 -

Anything besides the obvious EV range / road trip inefficient / can’t home lvl 2 charge?

Did anyone drive them and prefer the 550e? If so, curious what was it.

Thanks
