That is a truly shocking and bizarre arrangement. How are you supposed to use the trunk??

Yeah.......that's not how its supposed to be. Go back to the dealer and ask WTF is the rest of the spare tire kit? Cause that is ridiculous. Did they give you a mobility kit as well?

All of the parts jack, etc. are zipped up in the void of the spare tire.

I’m definitely going to inquire about the mobility kit… Also have to talk about the all weather trunk liner that came with it because it doesn’t fit

Here is the all weather trunk liner. My hope is that someone just put the wrong one in when they were prepping it. It was folded up on top of the tire w/ the carpet mats etc so I didn’t even think to try it yesterday at the dealer.

That looks like it would fit the i5 which doesn’t have the same dip in the trunk as the ICE/PHEV cars, but that doesn’t look like the right fit for your car.

My recollection (which I can’t verify right now) is that the 550e has battery modules shaped like pincers on either side of the trunk under the floor. This may be the reason for the inability to fit an underfloor spare on this model. I also note that the question mark link next to mobility kit on the i5 standard features list says something to the effect that no spare tire available for i models, only mobility kit.

The spare tire is definately a CF, sorry to hear about this. But mobility kit or your own mobility kit including a nice 12V or battery powered pump (I use viair models) has worked for me just fine and perhaps can be for you too. Since I owned a Corvette I haven’t daily driven cars much that have a spare (briefly I drove my wife’s old E60 545 for a while when I was between cars and it did have a spare), but my M5 doesn’t have one. In California it hasn’t been a problem. On the few occasions where I had some loss of pressure, I just pumped up and kept going. Never had to call road service.

Talked to both my client advisors in person today and they are escalating upwards as based on preliminary feedback, it appears the all weather format was not properly designed for the 550. Interestingly enough, the part number is the right part number for my Vin, but that part number is also listed as being interchangeable across the entire five series line so clearly they messed this one up.

Anybody got a picture of a 530i with an underfloor spare?

Seems like G30 has maybe at least 3 different luggage compartment mats.

Part numbers ending with:

-FF5 ICE
-FF6 ICE
-FF7 (listed for i5, not ICE)

Maybe you’ve got an -FF7 mat by mistake?

Do you mean G60? The parts department confirmed the mat issued (FF6) should fit but parts and my client advisors are all scratching their heads on this one...

Sorry typo yes I meant g60. Maybe you can ask if they will order an FF5 mat on their dime and see if it fits 550e any better.

So aside from the OEM BMW mobility kit, what other brands are everyone else
using/reccommend?

Ok, Here is a view of my trunk in my 540iX. with the Spare Tire option. Should be about the same for you. As far as the Mat. It would probably be the right one IF you had the Spare Tire insert like I do.

Our 550e (standard suspension) has no spare and a flat floor. It came with a small bag of tire repair bits.

Those were some of my thoughts in a short test drive as well. There are many modes to use so hopefully you will find the right combination. I found sport mode to be more engaging. Have you experienced "tip-in" or throttle lag when you are in electric mode and push to engage the ICE?

Geneatls, NACS, and anyone else who got this joke of a spare tire. Go to the dealer and show him those pics of my trunk. Then ask where your insert is? Cause the Spare-in-a-Bag crap just doesn't cut it for a BMW Luxury Sedan. It looks Ghetto as all hell.

AiredaleDad Would you mind taking a picture of the trunk with the entire spare insert removed, and measure the depth from the bottom surface to the top edge of the plastic tailgate piece (since the top edge of the insert seems to come right up flush with it)? Also, what’s the part number on your mat?

The i5 picture is also curious since it looks like there’s could be room for an insert. Not sure if that’s just a weight/range choice (probably) not equip a spare or the area unseen forward of that storage space is occupied (where’s the B&W subwoofer located)?

But isn't the battery located under the floor plan in front of the rear axle? Another conspiracy theory is it is due to the option 2VV (adjustable dampers and rear steering).

I ended up taking the car after they provided ended providing added cap cost reduction and benefits, plus they gave me a Mobility Kit. I plan to remove the spare, store it in the garage and just put it back when I return at lease end.
The dealership was great overall.

What came in your mobility kit? At this point, I can’t imagine a can of fix a flat and maybe a small air compressor are anything more than what I’d need to carry as otherwise I’m just calling my roadside assistance available through insurance.

BMW roadside will come out. If you're in a very remote area and there isn't major tire damage the mobility kit might get you to where more help is available. Its similar to the "Slime" kind of kits that are widely available.
