Glad that everyone is OK and glad that it's not a Tesla or any other tin cans.

Glad everyone is OK and doing fine.
This is the #1 reason I'm with BMW for the last 14 years. Not touching any other car. Just got my Son 2025 M440i. |

The alternative is worse and they are designed to protect. That they surely do, now that we have intelligent multi-stage deployment. We also had two Mitsubishi iMiEVs as test vehicles, Japan spec models, right-wheel drive, no battery conditioning systems… that was back in 2010. They are RWD which is why the front can be obliterated and will keep going. Thankfully she wasn’t running a half-second behind schedule or she would have got you right in the passenger compartment. If that little tin can had hit any part of substance on your i5 it wouldn’t be driving away, and she likely not walking either. That’s a true first-gen EV product; a tiny cheap light weight body on an expensive electric drivetrain. A tiny tin can. They’re hilarious to drive, but at highway speeds you can’t help but notice your survival instincts kick in… and tell you you’re better off at lower speeds. Thankfully she couldn’t afford an F250. Glad you’re all OK. |

So glad that your family is OK!
That’s why I keep coming back to BMW. On Dec. 2018, an idiot in an old pick up truck T-Boned my wife’s X3 when she was taking our sons to school. SUV was total loss…my wife & boys? They walked away from the accident without a scratch. I’ve gotten her two X5s, one X6 & now an iX and my older son (who’s in college) a 228i. Am I paying lot more in cars that I should? Probably yes, but the peace of mind I get from knowing that they are as safe as they can be in a car is priceless. I’ll work harder to have that peace of mind.

I forgot to ask the opening poster: did you (or will you) have a chance to download the video from the cameras after the accident? It would be interesting to see what the automated video feature caught during the accident. Unless you turned the feature off, your car's cameras should have saved video of a few seconds before and after the impact automatically.

Good to see how safe these cars are and unlike some other electrics didn’t catch on fire

How wonderful that you spent the money on the right car. I shudder to think of the pain if something had happened to a loved one. The machine hero.

Damn bro. All good my 24 m3 xdrive fully optioned also close to your cars price got destroyed from back. 2k miles. Totalled. The hardest part was seeing the beast of a car like the M3 which is so capable limped and undriveable leaking all kinds of juice.
Lol ik I'm getting deep but atleast we're not hurt. Gives you perspective. We payed for bmw protection too. |

Here's the funny part. Despite the extensive damage to the "engine" compartment - the car didn't leak a drop of anything...not even washer fluid. At the wrecking yard, the car was an island surrounded by pools of fluids from every car around it. Pretty stark.

Just FYI, I see you are in west coast. if you want I can hook you up with GM directly who I worked with for the last 7 years. and he can get you any slot you want. and look into M440i Gran Coupe before ordering new one.

Uff, that looks awful. As every body here has said already, glad you are all ok! What strikes me from the pictures is that the windshield is holding up?!? Amazing rigidity and development nowadays. But then again, it’s a BMW!!
My daughter when she was 9: “Dad, when I turn 18 I want my own car.” My daughter at 10: “Dad, I want a car at 18 - a nice car!” My daughter now 11: “Dad, when I turn 18 I want a BMW!!” I bet you’ll worship your weekend w the family😬 |
