Fun. Nothing more. I think it’s great they at least came up with something better than another quarter mile drag race.

It will be 1,341 hp (one megawatt).

That i5 is amazing keeping up with an M car. The professional driver still not sold. Said it wasn't an M car. i5 could have won and he would have said same thing. All this hate on EV's.

Obviously a true M car is going to beat any current EV once you “turn”.

And can we talk about that guys driving ability in the M4…what kind of turn was that? My grandmother could’ve came out of that corner with more speed on exit.

I agree that this is a silly comparison between two cars in two totally different size classes... but Edmunds also did a comparo between the same M4 and a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which is a midsize-ish vehicle like i5, and the Hyundai spanked the M4. That means it would do the same to the i5 M60, which isn't a good look for BMW.

If the new M5 can't do better and beat a large Hyundai crossover, it will be a laughingstock.

I am still impressed with the numbers on the m60. There are some parts where I feel that they cheaped out on the m60, but I like the fact that this electric car is based on the ice platform and performs accordingly.

I agree fully. It may be missing some luxuries of past cars (like massaging seats, etc.) but I love the fact that it doesn't stand out on the road as an ELECTRIC vehicle, but just a VEHICLE. If the i5 looked like a spaceship or radically different than a traditional car, I don't think I would be driving one.

I have had several m5s, and m6 and and x5m. I am happy with the driving experience. Initially this I purchased this car to hold me over till new m5 is at dealerships, but not sure I will want to to upgrade then. I also came from model s plaid. The driving experience is exponentially better in i5.

This. An M4 is not comfortable to drive. I sat in a Hyundai Ioniq 5N at the expo, and it is nothing but plastic and uncomfortable seats. The i5 M60 is meant to be quick but comfortable. The only good comparison is the Lucid Air Touring. Leather and wood interior, and about the same 0-60 speed. I still liked the BMW because it was sporty and comfortable rather than just fast and comfortable.

It’s funny to me, how much a completely artificial test stirs up the crowd. Both are great cars - I’m sure it’d be a blast to own an M4 competition.

It turns out that I’ve never had a moment driving my i5M60 where I thought “man, I wish I had more HP”. The thing still rocks me when I floor it. I *really* like the bigger, luxury sedan ride though. There are times when I want to have that experience and be able to drive others around in quiet comfort. That’s not really the M4 vibe.

The Ioniq 5 N looks like a blast, but also just not really a “serious” car (see above). I’m not into the gimmicks and it doesn’t look like a BMW inside or out. It’s not just about lap times or 0-60. Still this thread is about a drag race so I’ll stop here ;-)

Electric is rubbish, it’s simple as that. Stack up any electric car against petrol powered, despite “how fast” it may be in comparison, I’d still take the M4 (in this case). Electric is for light bulbs, hairdryers, and lava lamps

I agree. It's nothing to take too seriously. I was curious to see the results and that's about it.

To say electric is rubish is ignorant in my opinion. My model s plaid would leave any car in the dust to about 100 mph. The brakes and suspension were terrible. Saying electric cars are rubish is similar to saying the iPhone is rubbish.

The Ioniq has more of a hooligan image because of the branding and design, but the hardware and engineering behind it is very serious. So much so that Hyundai is already testing the same setup in the Genesis G80 Magma EV that's apparently going into production in the near future as a direct M5 competitor.

If we're talking about just internal combustion, BMW is still king. But in the EV space, there's a lot of new threats and I worry that they aren't doing enough to stay at the top of their game.

Completely agree - the ICE order is not going to be the same as the EV order - Hyundai is killing it. My point was more that I wanted a BMW EV rather than a Hyundai EV because the BMW offers the driving experience I was looking for.
