Since I got the car in March, I've always only carried my phone and the "credit card" key in my wallet. Never had a situation where I was locked out. Like with you, when I did encounter any trouble, I just waiting 8 seconds after putting my hand in the door handle area, or sent an unlock code to the car from the app. I have not yet needed to use the wallet card key or the FOB.

I bet you'll be fine!

That's so weird. It's like you have to hide it from the car so it doesn't think you're cheating on it with another fob. Lol.

At least the car doesn’t think it should start up with her profile

Can 2 bluetooth phones can be connected simultaneously? Meaning, if a call / SMS is received on either phone, the system will ring / display the SMS?

You can only use CarPlay with one phone, but I pair my personal and my work phones with my car simultaneously all the time. I do work calls on Teams on Bluetooth regularly.

Thanks! That's a relief. I have a car that only connects one phone at a time - so if a call comes in on the other phone, I have to fiddle with the touch screen to switch to the other phone. Usually the caller would have hung up by then.

I play audio through bluetooth and don't use CarPlay or Android Auto; I prefer built-in navigation.

There is a current test going on through Testbirds with BMW Bluetooth connectivity. I wasn’t selected for this test, so I can’t say what they are testing. It gives me hope that BMW is gathering info and pain points.

It would be nice if they could improve BT connectivity somehow. Just today when I wanted to use remote parking, it was hit and miss.

I was washing the car today and wanted to back it up 2 feet or so. I was able to do that with the manual option through remote parking. It worked flawlessly the first time! About 10 minutes later, I wanted to back the car out of the garage so I could clean the garage floor, and when I went to use remote parking again, it simply would not keep a BT connection long enough for me to use it at all. I don't know what changed - I stood in the same spot, used the same phone, etc. It's just not consistent for me. Makes me wonder if it would work better with a newer phone (I have a three year old Galaxy S22 Ultra).

Glad to see it is not just me... i went to wash the car, pull it out of the garage and it wouldnt recognize my phone dig.key and had to put it in the charger pad to start. ( the car is always unlocked in the garage) Then took it outside and washed the car down, went to put it inside 10min. later and same thing, wouldnt recognize the phone key and had to put it in the charger. Doesnt happen often but I dont drive it every day either. I have the same phone s22 ultra.

When this happens I go into devices and all the boxes are unchecked. I then check CarPlay again and it takes minutes for it to find and connect. Then use Spotify with waze on the screen. Stop at another store and restart the car and the same device screen is back on the screen. This time it is connected, and playing the music where it left off, but I have to hit the CarPlay symbol to get waze back.
I think 29 more months to go.... But wont hurt so bad after about 24 to move on.
Similar for me. But this what I found to fix it on my end..

Do you have bluetooth headphones that connect to your phone? If so, Sometimes they don’t auto disconnect. This can affect connectivity to Carplay. When this happens, Check your bluetooth settings and disconnect the external headphones/speaker.

2nd thing I found was sometimes audio wouldn’t play even though it’s connected. By holding the music icon and select mobile devices, this lets you uncheck / disable carplay and once the other 2 boxes load as checked, reselect / check the carplay button. And violà, it works.

Hasn’t happened in quite some time since i did that. Good Luck, hope it’s as simple as mine.

Thanks, but I don't have headphones that connect. The only thing connected to my phone by BT is my Pixel watch. I have tried turning that off though and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Not sure why the BT connection is not reliable.

I got my car in January and my CarPlay worked for a few weeks then I could never get it to consistently work again. Just gave up on it.

It would say it was connected then just disconnect and I would be unable to connect it back.

Just got tired of dealing with it. My Bluetooth with just fine but the CarPlay won’t🤷🏻‍♂️

Has anyone tried the function that when you have multiple Cellphones in the system you tell it which one is primary? I have been watching U-tube videos from BeamerView and they say that's the way for your car to know which phone takes precedence over others int he car at the same time.

When you say primary, what functionality are you referring to? For me, primary = works with CarPlay - which is then kind of obvious as only one phone can connect to CarPlay at a time, although a second can be connected to Bluetooth. If I’m say, listening to a podcast on my primary phone, I chose to join a work conference call on my secondary phone, then the secondary phone will take over the audio system. It all just works for me, but depending upon what problem you’re trying to fix might change the answer?

That's been my experience as well. Primary connects to Car Play - secondary to Bluetooth and can play music via Bluetooth.

There is a setting in the connected devices where, if you have more than one phone paired to the vehicle, you can select which one is the primary one. For example: If you and your spouse both have phones connected to the bluetooth. And you both get in the car, the car needs to decide which one to set the drivers settings to. Someone before mentioned his car kept connecting to his wife's phone even though it was his car. I was watching a U-tube about it and they said if there are multiple devices, you can set one as the primary. Therefore if there are multiple phones paired to the car, if the primary device is in the car, it will always select that one as the device to which it will read the settings for seats, mirrors etc. Just go to U-tube and look up BeamerView and there are 2 videos on tricks and set up for all BMW cars.

It's this one right towards the end.

Got it - I pair multiple phones but only one has my virtual key.
