We’re gonna need to see mass production of much better battery and charging tech before those statements come true.

That’s a better world for humans. Car exhaust is not just carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons, but nitrogen dioxide, benzene and formaldehyde. And yes, 3% is probably a high estimate for people who drive 1,000 miles without stopping. I don’t know of any vehicles with that large of a gas tank. |

Make the new M5 at least 1,000 lbs lighter & please give us a version without that ****ing EV hybrid crap. We don't need it nor do we want it. Save that heavy uneccessary BS for the monstrosity you already built, the XM. Thank you!

If M4 is getting a quad motor drivetrain, so will M5. It’s only a matter of time. i5 represents the right step forward.

Mine is rated at 248 with the 20” wheels. In order for me to get that low of a range, I would need to drive at 80mph in freezing temps. Right now, freeway drives at 40-50 degrees, I get a low of 3.2 miles/kWh which equates to 256. That will improve drastically once the weather warms up.

BMW seems to rate their EV range like they rated the S55/58/63/8's horsepower.
Yep, it makes that much power. In Telluride, in 100 degree weather, on 85 octane This is a good thing. More manufacturers need to under promise and over deliver. My model X was rated at 371 new. It's now showing 347 after 47,000 miles, and it can do that, at 45 mph, in 70 degree temperatures, on a calm day. At real highway speeds, you're looking at 200-250miles depending on weather I got to sit in an i5 that was on the showroom floor the other day and it's amazing a) how much it is no bigger than the F10/W212 I shopped for Wifebot 6 years ago inside, despite being significantly larger and heavier overall and b) how well-made new BMW interiors look and feel even with the dashboard panoramic TV screen. I like them a lot more than contemporary Merc and Audi interiors now, which is not something I felt about G01 or F10. I also was amazed they had it set to sit at 100% all the time. Please send us the wagon (with a NACS port)

And dude for the old people whining about the complaint about bladders, … it’s great that you can’t go 2 hours without having to stop. But my complaint is that whenever someone complains about range, inevitably some of you come out of the woodwork to excuse the deplorable inpracticability by claiming 4-6 hours of drive time isn’t necessary because you have to stop every 10 minutes to empty your bladders. That’s great for you. You’re old. The rest of us would like to be able to drive 4-5 hours at a time without stopping, and without having to hypermile and draft behind semi trucks. The fact that some people can’t drive for that long at a stretch doesn’t mean that the use case for the longer range product is pointless. The other issue here is that range is a close proxy for efficiency. EVs are hypersensitive to changes in temperature, speed, wind resistance, and elevation. So your 300-mile range quickly becomes 225 miles in the real world. And we don’t want to have to stop for 20 minutes at a time.

Like anything it depends what you want. If you ever think you'll be annoyed at having to stop an extra 3x during a trip, for 20 minutes, instead of just bombing through, don't buy an EV unless you have other cars/options. If you can't put a level2 charger (~6-10kw), in your parking spot, don't buy an EV.
The upsides of EV's are well known and numerous, road-tripping and charging without a home charging option are about the only downsides I've noticed so far in 3.5 years and 47000 miles of EV people pod ownership. And I should note, the reason I bought a Model X was because in December of 2020, it was a cheaper, better-handling, faster-accelerating option than comparable "spicy trim" 7-seaters. Those advantages were enabled by electric drive. Also enabled by shitty build quality and half-assed development decisions, but that's a Tesla "everyone's a beta tester" problem not an EV problem Having a gas station in your garage kicks ass The throttle turning into a completely under-the-radar disappear button kicks ass Frunks kick ass (womp womp, but maybe Neue Klasse will fix this) $10 a week in fuel kicks ass But I do wish it were a wagon instead of a goofy lozenge. And I'm cheating, I have an E90M to drive whenever I want to go analog. And, as an aside, EV throttle response beats S65 throttle response, it's like it's wired into your brain, it's amazing. If you like naturally aspirated V8's, the part of your brain that says GO NOW will love electric drive. SEND US THE WAGONS

Too bad about Model S not getting a proper track pack (bushings, alignment, non-air-suspension, etc.) yet. The wheel/tire and brake package is sortof an afterthought compared to proper track/upgrade packs and uses most of the same parts as the base model in the suspension. BMW would do such a better job at chassis tuning. And the turn signals would be in the correct place and a dealer network that actually knows its customers

EV don't care
How do you block all EV stuff. I'll here because I like driving cars. Not because I like being driven by a battery powered computer. Formula E compared to F1 No spectators compared to full stands. Even with not great sounding V8 V10 V12 engines |
