going in the right direction and making bigger strides.
I have installed a charger at my house because the limited availability of fast chargers and the number of free chargers always seems to be very low. Will need to wait and see when I get my car soon hopefully how well my charging goes. As for looks it is an each his own kind of thing. I have always preferred traditional looking sedans.

Congrats on the i5 and i7. We might have gone that route, if my husband hadn’t rushed into the Lightning earlier this year. It’s a platinum, and I’ve only made 8 payments on it, so we would be underwater in a trade. We were just talking about this at lunch. I can’t keep him out of my i5.

We also have a 2023 i7 and 2024 i5, but of the two, the i5 seems far more reliable so far. The i7 is more luxurious and spacious, of course, but all that technology has led to more service trips than I’ve ever had with any other car. Thankfully, the i7 is on its way out of my garage and my focus will now be on the i5.

When I purchased ICE cars, I used to pamper them and drive our older cars to keep the mileage down, but now with the EVs, I reason that there is no benefit to this, because after the 8 year battery warranty expires, the car will represent very old technology and replacing the battery will likely cost more than the value of the car. So why try to keep it for the long term? I might as well drive and enjoy it to the fullest, and try to reap the value of it.

Agreed, I drive my i4 and iX WAY harder on a daily basis than I did my BMW and Audi V8's, and it's all guilt free - charge up at night, do it all again, using maybe 10% of the braking that I did before and only maintenance item I've done on either (21k miles on one and 1k on the other) has been refilling windshield washer fluid!

I like having a choice between ICE and electric. The charging network (outside of Tesla) is horrible. So, it has to be considered if you are buying an EV that's not a Tesla. Hopefully, this will all be fixed with BMW and Tesla partnership, but I would not believe it until we see it.

As for me, home charging solves 90% of my driving. So, its not a problem. I think EV works best with a luxury feel. It's always in the right gear, and the drive is way quieter and smoother. If you want a sportier feel, stay with ICE. I went from an M4 to a I5M60 and love it. But, I was looking for comfort, tech and luxury. Its a home run for me, but understand its not for everyone. No one is matching this right now on the market (esp if you love BMW).

If you want most of this but need charging network go with a Tesla Model S. Its pretty good too. Just don't get the tech or refinement. If you want the feel of sports sedan, go ICE.

Oh gender neutral something something. You like that?

Brah, who are you kidding? Pretty sure the i5 is a bit out of your price range based on your other cars. Your views don't really matter here. Go away.

Always find it crazy when people complain about EVs being shoved down their throats/not having the choice, unlike the last 100 years when you could have petrol or petrol in the US…😆

Truth is, if ICE dies out it will be because car manufacturers can’t justify developing both EVs and ICE!

Maybe if you are old and stuck in your ways. The kids in my neighborhood think I have the coolest car on the street. That includes the boy whose dad owns 2 Teslas. My son is 19 and studying video game design in college. He thinks BMW are building cars to appeal to people like him, who never knew life before Xbox and PlayStations. BMW has a younger generation to win over.

Seems like the Lucid Air Pure is a compelling alternative to the i5.

[QUOTE=mckman;30778011]Seems like the Lucid Air Pure is a compelling alternative to the i5.

I considered the Lucid Air Touring before buying the i5 M60. The Pure only has black vegan interior, no color choice. The center console cover is cloth and will get wet with drinks. No automatic opening of trunk or frunk. The Touring had a choice of interiors with better materials and more standard features. It does not have a HUD which is a minimum requirement for any vehicle I own. My Mazda had it FFS. The Lucid is also lower to the ground and has an extremely sloping A pillar which I managed to hit every time I got in and out. I am only 5’1”

I test drove the i5 M60 a week ago. For background, I have a 2023 X5 45e and a 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance. The Tesla has daily driver responsibilities, the X5 is for longer trips and people/cargo hauling.

In any case, the interior of the i5, build quality, comfort, and infotainment were all great (although I think the center screen is maybe a bit too big and wide). However, the interior did feel a little bit cheaper than my X5. NVH seemed to be low (a good thing) and definitely way more comfortable than my Model 3 (no surprise). Overall it was a fun car…BUT BMW still has a ways to go in matching the electric motor performance and quality that Tesla has. I don’t mean the acceleration figures, but just how solid and refined they feel. No surprise given Tesla’s lead, but there was a noticeable lag in acceleration when hitting the GO pedal and regen wasn’t anywhere near as good as the Tesla in quality/feel/consistency.

I went into the test drive thinking about a potential replacement for my Model 3P (the ride comfort/suspension and road noise are quite noticeable when you jump back and forth between it and my X5), but I walked away from that test drive essentially crossing the i5 off of my list. My overall impression is that legacy OEMs are still figuring out their electric platforms and have really impressive first run models out, but they need at least one cycle of refinement. Everything else about the car is great, but not sold on the electric motors or battery/range just yet.

I would hazard a guess that you didn’t customize your regen. When you put the car in drive, you must pull it towards you to put it in B mode. Then in the display settings, select B mode braking to high. Test drives are a ‘guest’ account and have default settings. I have it set like I mentioned, and never need to use the brake pedal at any speed.

Once you have a driver profile, there is a lot of set up for preferences which work really well when there are 2 primary drivers. It knows who is driving, and I can sit in the passenger seat while my husband is driving. We both have digital phone keys. Overall, I found the BMW electric vehicle technology to be superb.

Absolutely. As I posted in another thread, the previous 5 looked an awful lot like my 2009 Mazda 6. So much so, that I kept driving my Mazda until I bought my Jaguar in 2020. But, the new 5 made my heart do flip flops. I was smitten.
