BTW this post is a gem. I was super disappointed to learn that i5 in the US don’t have the digital rear climate control, and this post provides a solution!
It took them only a few days after he reached out with the request.

Did anymore people request the 4NB option? It's not a must have for me, but will still make a the 5 series feel more premium.

4NB (4 Zone Climate Control) has been an issue since the F10 days. It used to be an option available years ago in all U.S. 5 models not sure why they took it off while the rest of the world gets it. For both the later F10 and all G30, only the M5 had 4 zone here in the U.S.

4 Zone not only adds the rear controls in the back center console but also B-pillar vents which means it needs to be added at the factory during the manufacturing process and cannot be done after the fact.

THIS! I remember having these exact same conversations about the two F10s and one G30 I owned. BMW would probably say something about market positioning, etc.

I just picked up a new Black Sapphire i5 M60 (very highly option and packaged) and I was honestly shocked during delivery that there are NO rear climate controls and no rear side vents on the backside of the B-pillars.

I mean....even our i4 e40 had rear climate controls. What was/is BMW thinking?

But, I LOVE this car. Coming from an i4 and iX....this feels even faster than my i4 M50 and as comfy and road isolated as the iX. Very happy

I found my new M60 does not have rear climate controls. I had asked my SA before ordering. He never got back to me and TBH I forgot to press. Now I am realizing rear passengers will NOT be able to increase fan speed or control temp. Lame AF.
Wondering if it can be retrofitted. If poss I am sure it will be way more than $650. I am taking the M60 to service tomorrow for driver assistance error and I am going to find out if its possible to add rear climate controls. Kind of annoyed with BMW USA

Not sure why you'd be annoyed at BMWUSA regarding this. It sounds like your SA was the real cause of this ommission/oversight.

I would be annoyed at both. The SA for not being responsive and BMWNA for not routinely allowing a feature in the US that is available everywhere else. BMWNA makes some odd decisions like this one and requiring the deletion of the side "M" badges on the iX M60 that everywhere else in the world gets.

I am more annoyed with BMWUSA...the SA advisor had NO idea options can be forced that are clearly not communicated to dealers or shown in ordering guide. The fact that rear passengers in US i5's have no rear climate controls is crazy. Can't understand why that is neglected when it's avail so readily outside of US. I called BMWUSA and gave my feedback. The "genius" I spoke with was really surprised. And was quite adamant that options like "4NB" can NOT be force added or requested. He said he will look into that

My apologies. I didn't know that BMW didn't offer that option in the USA. Now I understand your frustration with them as well as with your SA.

On a related note I almost canceled my order when I saw the ambient lighting in the 530. I loved the interactive light bar (4UR) that I had seen in the many G60 videos I had watched. I asked the salesman and he said that was only being installed in Europe and that American ICE G60's were not getting it. Thankfully I did some poking around and called my SA (who's been great) and he also did some research and determined that the 540's were all getting the 4UR bar and that 530's would be getting them in builds after March 2024.

I agree. I wonder if anyone at BMW ever explained why these choices were made for the US market.

It seems weird that they didn’t as the US probably uses more A/C than in Europe. My back seat is for the dog or my backpack, so it didn’t matter to me.

Here in Canada rear climate controls were included standard in the G30 until the LCI, so every 5 series had them. When they became optional with the LCI it seems like no dealers or customers optioned them because in the used car market no LCI G30 seems to have them. Same thing with the G60 here: it is optional so no car has it.

Seems like customers don't want to pay for that as an option and it may explain why the US doesn't have it. Maybe the comfort of passengers in the back isn't important to most customers in the US? And let's not forget that in North America driving solo is prevalent, which may explain things.

As for me I plan on ordering the option since I often carry colleagues and friends for work and road trips.

Another point of view: In EU families have only one car and so have more passengers. In the US there’s less need to cater fewer passengers. Case in point.

there are 3 items that you should ask for if you are purchasing in the USA
1) 4 zone climate control
2) Hidden tow hook
3) Dynamic Handling Package.
The wife and I are almost empty nest now that the youngest is always out driving herself so had no need for the 4 zone. Wish I knew about the tow hook (3ac is the code I think) and the dynamic package is cool but the car really should not need it for my driving style.

The dynamic package gets you the electronically controlled sway bars. Allows the wheels to be disconnected from left to right when traveling straight. Improves comfort.

Do you not get the rear control screen if you add the luxury seating package? That includes rear seat heating, per the description, so I’m confused how you would control that without the rear screen.

Buttons are present, not the screen. I can send a picture later.

And the virtual car viewer didn’t let you navigate the view to the rear to inspect every detail before ordering. But Ah well, lesson learned.

Also noticed the “M” logo is missing on the sides of the U.S. models. Both E40 and M60.

Examples of both my e40 and another owners M60:
I asked my Dealer here at Military Sales in Spain. He said the US models don't come witht he M Logos on the fenders. But he can order them and the dealer will place them before delivery.

Well, I'm in the process of working on my build order with my CA. I've requested that they reach out to BMW NA to get authorization to add '4NB' to my 540.

I'll let you all know how that goes.

Update: According to the CA that I'm working with, BMW NA declined to allow the 4NB group to be added to my 540 build.

If someone has any suggestions on whom the CA needs to talk to (I have no idea if they're speaking to the right people) then I'd appreciate the information.
