I think the number starts from 9,000 as I ordered right around 8am and my number was 9200ish. I don’t think there were 9000 people ordering this thing within 3 mins. It’s not an iPhone :-)

I did mine at 8:12am and received order number 9266.

I am completely underwhelmed the more and more I look at the offering for the i5! Am I alone? Terrible battery capacity compared to iX and i7. On par with the smaller i4 battery. Veganza pleather only? Terrible choices of “individual” Merino leather color options. Funky grille design for M60 compared to all other options. It does appear B&W is on the menu thankfully


I have a loaded ‘23 iX M60, and completely hate the lack of multi contour seating. It seems that all the new BMW chassis are going this route. Not available on the iX, i7 or i5!! I prefer a car, so looking to sell our X5 45e, and put my wife in the iX and get a car for myself.

BMW honestly underrates the range advertised, however only charging to 80% battery regularly, the range in everyday driving for me on the iX in Eco mode, I will use 55% of the battery on my 1 day, 2-way commute to my farthest office. Worried that I would be closer to 70% of i5M60 battery on the same commute, allowing for not much travel outside of the commute without charging on an 81kw battery compared to the 105kw battery in my iX. Comparing apples to apples, the iXM60 and i5 powertrain are very similar, weight of i5 is only a few hundred pounds lighter than iX, so not expecting my calculations to be too far off.

All of this has me seriously considering a bump up to the i7 xDrive60. I would lose the extra power boost, but honestly don’t really use it in my iX as it’s overkill for everyday driving. I honestly only use sport mode on the iX for showing friends/family how quick the heavy beast can move!

When did pre-orders open? My SA reached out to me to congratulate me on ordering but didn't have any further information. I asked if they had the order guide and she said she was going to have to check and get back with me.

No order guides or pricing info yet on options from what I know so far from my SA. Maybe they will show up for i5 before the ICE variants.

According to BMWUSA press release, multi-contour seats are standard on M60 and Luxury Seating Package is available as an option for e40

No "new" BMW has Multi-CONTOUR seats any longer. i4, iX, i7 and now i5 all are absent of the feature. I really hate the missing Multi-Contour seating in my iX, however just got the i7 today. That seat design is much improved from the iX. If they carry over most of it to the i5, you will be in good shape, otherwise, good luck.

It's a piece of shit name that BMW came up with to confuse all of us that are familiar with Multi-FUNCTION seats of BMW past. The seat is simply x-way adjustable depending on the model. It's a less functional seat with less adjustments than the BMW Multi-Function seat. The "core-functionality" for the upper portion of the seat being separately adjustable from the bottom portion of the seat back is GONE. From my personal opinion, forever, looking over the seating options in the BMW lineup.

On the iX (mind you I have a loaded M60) it is a very simple 2-piece seat. No thigh extension! No power adjustable headrest! Simply lumbar support, massage, and power adjustments for seat back, seat cushion and side bolster. Of course there are B&W speakers in the seat headrest and the 4D sound shakers as well, but you can opt for "Multi-FUNCTION" seats without getting B&W sound system.

On the i7, its a much better version of that same iX seat that has a head cushion that is separate from the seat back. The headrest is power adjustable. The i7 seat bottom has a power thigh support adjustment. The overall comfort of the i7 seat is much better to me than the iX.

There are rumors of 2024 iX getting a redesigned seat due to the discomfort of the design where there is a hard plastic bezel with a passthrough to rear (design element). Those vertically challenged individuals find the most issue with the seat.

Hoping the i5 seat for USA will be most similar to the i7 seat

That’s super annoying to take away things that should be standard or optional on a car in this segment. All I can think is they are trying to reduce motors and hence the weight. The car still weighs a lot more than outgoing G30. F10 to G30 chassis was a big leap in weight reduction still maintaining all the options. I have multi contour seats on mine, had on F10 as well, it will be a bummer if that’s taken away in g60. Maybe that will only be an option with Merino Leather. X5 still maintains the comfort options.

I wouldn't hold my breath. My 1st BMW was an 2011 535 M-Sport loaded (including Multi-Contour seats). I've been in-love with that seat design from a comfort perspective ever since, and every BMW that I've has before my current 2 have had Multi-Contour (actually lie ... my G29 Z4 they weren't available )

The only "new" BMW to include these seats are the overpriced ///M-exclusive XM. This vehicle in my opinion is still using all G05/G07 elements, so I'm not actually considering it a new model, and expect that this is the end of the line.

Go check the configurators for DE, UK, IR, etc. I don't see any good Merino colors, and I don't see Multi-Contour seats.
