Out of no where, BOOM, it flips and I see someone go flying out one of the windows.
This was just terrifying. The other two people in the car were pinned under it. So it was the ground, them, then the roof of the car. I IMMEDIATLY pull over. Almost flipped my car in the process.
The sounds were horrible, people screaming in pain as their bodies being slowly killed.
Anyways.. my adrenaline pumping, Im fuckin runnin as fast as possible. Get over there, I dont even know how I did it when I look back, but I litterealy pick up the car (sedan) enough so that they could get out. One person did, but my best friend couldnt move. By the time the one person got out, I cant hold the car anymore. Im fucking crying, as I cant hold this thing, and have to put it down. She tried to make me feel better by nodding like it was okay and her time to go but, it still killed me to have to put this thing back on my friend's body killing her. Hearing her scream.
I still hurt inside. It just kills me to hear and see something like that.
Both my friends were dead before the ambulance arrived. The other one lived. (didnt know him much)

well thats my story

The very first thing that they teach you in courses like Emergency First Responder, ect. is that you HAVE TO ask the person if you can assist them, hell ask them sever times even if they are not conscious. They will say yes, no or not respond. It is at that point if they do not or can not respond you have to make the determination on weather your actions will be considered life saving or not. There are times when it will be best to leave the victim where they are until professionals arrive (EG car smoking= OK do not move yet, car on fire= must act now)

The biggest thing is that you have to keep you head on straight, not get all freaked out or get a mob or hero mentality of others are present. Don't let the moment get to you and think/act smart.

There's something called implied consent, where you make that decision on your own. If you think he/she would like you to save her life if he/she was conscious, then you have the right to save his or her life.

Preserving life comes before preventing the condition from worsening. Of course putting a cervical collar on her to immobilize her neck is important. However, if he truly thinks that the car is going to blow up before EMS and fire fighters arrive at the scene, his actions are justified and should be protected by the Good Samaritan law. It is an unfortunate event further complicated by the greed of the "victim" and the ambulance chasers, as well as the twisted tort system in this country. The old saying "no good deed goes unpunished" still applies.
I'd suffice to say spinal immobilization is as important as persevering life. Truthfully speaking - would you want to live the rest of your life unable to move/speak/eat/talk? I wouldn't. The bottom line is that the guy should have waited (if possible) for EMS to arrive. Apparently the car was going to explode so, in this case, I'd say he was right in what he did...he doesn't know any better anyway.

The lady can do all of that. A paraplegic just means you can't use below your waist. She still has full control over her upper body.

Wow, people should just be fucking happy they're alive. Next time, I'll let her burn to death. What a joke, I save someone's life and they think, shit man, you broke such and such....well bitch, would you rather have been in the car when it burst to flames?!

Andy - crazy story, and I'm not doubting you about the lifting the car thing, humans have been known to do crazy things in dire situations - your body's limits and MUCH higher than what we can ever achieve on a normal daily basis and adrenaline is something that brings us closer to the limits...

Life goes on.

I'm going to show a side of me, that I never would really on this forum:

I know where Kev is coming from as well everyone else viewing the idea of fuck C-Spine get me out.

I've worked on a rig (ambulance) for a few years doing 911 calls. So I've got my experience on the job

as well off duty having saved a guy in a car accident. There is a fine line of when to help. As stated in an EMS program/Academy and books

there is NO legal responsibility for me to help but there sure as hell is a Moral responsibility.

I make a judgement call if i see an accident on how bad and who is there now responding.

First off C-Spine ("immobilizing them") is very important. Sure you don't want to paralyze someone if you can avoid it but also someone CAN die if its not done and they do have a neck/back injury (that is really bad). I have heard REAL stories of someone getting up out of the car seemed ok than dead.

HOWEVER if there is a safety issue and that person HAS to be moved asap than we move them out of harms way.

Second I have never seen a car blow up. I don't know where people get the idea that cars just blow up. They sure do catch on fire and they can liiiight the fuck up

and a bad car fire is a horrible thing especially with someone inside.

The good Samaritan law was put for reason but if there is no danger and you don't know what you are doing... Do what you can and wait for help. Surely yeah not always best to just pull someone out of a car crash but also no right to sue thats absurd (be all and end all)

topics like this especially car accidents are something I don't take lightly. I've worked a lot of different calls and plenty of car accidents, even high speed pursuit gone bad.

Damn. Moral of the story....no more good will in this country. Every joe blow is just looking for a way to get paid.

Next time people say "is there a doctor"? My response, I can call 911 for you. My malpractice insurance does not cover me to help you, nor does the Calif supreme court.

on in America can we see such bullshit.

andyffer, sorry for your loss. did you even find out what caused the entire thing?

a bit off topic but here're my .02. Driving...I think this country needs to bring up the standards. Statistically 6/10 drivers are not qualified, but from my experience, it seems like 9.9/10 aren't. Every day on the road, I'm always worried about somebody rear ending me (happened to my gf). People are so self centered here, they don't care about others. Since I moved to NJ, I saw:

1. people getting so upset about traffic, they literally go off roading and do whatever they like
2. people will do anything to get pass that light (e.g. if somebody is turning left, nobody yields...it's whoever have a stronger car wins! that's what caused a head-on in front of my building)
3. people will do anything to get ahead of you (e.g. squeezing beside you even though its a single lane)
4. at red light, they will keep moving their cars ahead almost to the point that it taps your bumper. they'll start moving when they THINK its green rather than if the lights turned green.
5. people driving at high speed as if their car is a magnet even on icy roads

never seen these while driving in Canada, Asia, nor Europe. I thought survival of the fittest will take care of this, but jokes aside, its the ones that are victims that often don't...

on another note, ive seen news lately that really disappoints me...a dog and a human being hit by cars...nobody offered to stop and help...(2 different news articles)

In Florida, there is no "duty to assist" as friends who are attorneys tell me. It sucks too, things would have to be pretty bad before I'd consider nowadays just for this reason alone!
