It depends, if the car is my only source of fun then sound is very important to a sports car
If i have a big stable then i can have some cars specialized in performance at the cost of sound, but you can bet at least one of my cars would have great exhaust note ;-) |

All other things being equal, I would say my F82 CS has better performance than my E92 M3 ever did. However, I connected much better with the E92 and the sound was a huge part of that. I'd take the E92 over an F82.

Using the word "substandard" is out of place, and irrational (who is to define what is substandard?)
The OG M2, for example, can be said to have above standard performance, as well as a wonderful sound. The M2C can be show to have increased performance over the OG M2, but an obviously less than desirable sound. If the point of this poll is another comparison, I'll take the M2. |

I have owned/own a M2 and M2C.
I think everyone agrees that they both "perform" well. Not going to get into one being better or not. I also think everyone agrees that the M2 "sounds" better than the M2C. So given that both perform lets say equally but one sounds clearly "better" than the other, if asked, given the choice would I pick the M2C over the M2, "my" answer is YES. If asked, would I not purchase a M2C b/c of how it sounds, "my" answer is NO and I don't think it sounds bad just different. |

You could dwindle that list down by choosing a car with a proper manual transmission. Also, all 3 cars you mentioned have some sort of turbo lag, the Boxter especially with it's 4 banger.

I will always choose a great performance, that is the first thing that I consider when buying a car. I prefer a better feature over a loud or good sound.

Sound for me, though this appears to likely have both.

I voted amazing sound with substandard performance, as I never got a definition for "substandard performance". Using the next gen C63 as an example, it is coming with hybrid power and a 4 banger. I would much rather have a W204 or W205 C63, more sound but less perf.

Depends on the car.
Luxurious, sporty vehicle= Sound A bad ass 1K WHP plus car = Performance. How can you enjoy sound when you have a noisy car.
