Although we didn't see much of his racing on TV, there are enough un-aired highlights of his this season to create a feature film. Between his driving and the competency of the team as a whole, it's been quite impressive.

Have been reading about the slight problem Max had with his car after the pit stop. Tanabe was saying he was lucky the problem remained small as it could have escalated into a bigger one and the final adjustment just made it a little better.
It may have been a throttle positioning sensor error which will thus affect the engine braking and Max applied mind over matter to conquer it.
On my previous Merc Sport once after starting engine there was no response from it just stuck on tick over.After switching it off then on again it cleared.

Indeed my friend . I already saw it in Lap 1 . Something was not right in the way how Charles could overtake MAX .
MAX lost there at that moment at least 6-7 seconds in a few laps ...and the race as well .
Actually it's very impressive that he finished on the podium with his second place !

Entering the 21st and final race of the season at Yas Marina Circuit, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Hamilton had a chance to tie and/or break several all-time Formula 1 records.

This was the case even after his penalty following the Brazilian Grand Prix at Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace had historic implications as far as potentially hindering from tying and/or breaking several of these records.

The 34-year-old Briton originally finished this race in third place but dropped to seventh after he was issued a five-second time penalty for making contact with Red Bull Racing rookie Alexander Albon and spinning him out on the race’s penultimate lap.

Hamilton responded by dominating the 55-lap season finale around the 21-turn, 3.451-mile (5.554-kilometer) Yas Marina Circuit road course on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and he was still able to tie and break several all-time Formula 1 records as a result of it.

Here is a quick rundown.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the 19th race of the season that Hamilton led. This tied the record set by Sebastian Vettel, who led laps in all 19 races throughout the 2013 season en route to winning his fourth championship.

Hamilton’s victory was also his 17th podium finish of the season, which also tied an all-time record. Michael Schumacher set this record in the 17-race 2002 season before Vettel tied it in the 19-race 2011 season. Hamilton himself had already tied it in the 19-race 2015 season, the 21-race 2016 season and the 21-race 2018 season.

Hamilton winning the season finale and recording the fastest lap in it netted him 26 points, bringing his point total to 413 for the season. This is a new all-time record outright; he had just broken the record last year with his 408-point performances. He needed to win this race to break this record, and that’s exactly what he did.

It is worth noting that the current scoring format was introduced ahead of the 2010 season, although the additional point for the fastest race lap was added ahead of the 2019 season.


By scoring points in every race in the 2019 season, Hamilton became the first driver to score points in every race in multiple seasons. He also scored points in every race on the 20-race 2017 schedule. Schumacher scored points in every race on the 17-race 2002 schedule, but that was the only season in which he pulled off this feat.

I'll wager if it wasn't for that hick up with the throttle Max would not have made it easy for Ham to win that race.Wish Tanabe would open up more on how it appeared all of a sudden than saying control unit.

Compare the lap times (against Hamiltons) throughout the race and you'd see why.
Verstappens second stint was consistently faster than his first stint....with a similar delta to Hamilton in both stints.
Verstappen made his fastest lap on the last lap of the race .

Unless he’s wildly struggling, Ham usually opens up a gap to keep the car behind out of drs. I don’t think it would’ve been any difference because he opened up the gap before drs would’ve been activated if it was working.

Lewis had too much pace in hand. Remember, the DRS affected one, Valteri Bottas. BOT would have definitely been on the podium and likely harass VER in the last 4 laps of the race.

Max himself said the throttle problem had no bearing on the race. He said he would not have been able to catch Hamilton had it been working 100%.

Also, Hamilton wasn't pushing flat out, he was only managing the race. Proof of that is his fastest lap of the race came towards the end.

Slightly disagree,after one lap if the gap was just over a second then if DRS WAS activated as per usual then it would have given the impetus to the car behind, Leclerc to latch on to him like he did to the pass on lap 1 and possibly get past.I'm convinced because of no drs Ham got away.

The gap was slightly more than one second. And impetus is one thing but the long-run pace of the Mercedes is quite another. VER had no chance in that race, DRS operational or not.
