Waiting for the truck driver to deliver a kitchen table and chairs we've been waiting for 2 months. Also, waiting for carbon fiber splitter and mirror caps from FEDEX!
Oh, why does it take more than 10 minutes to have your kids come down after calling them? Waiting patiently before I go

I am waiting for the mini-USB power cable that I had to order from Amazon today to arrive on Monday. I just finished assembling my lightning detector kit this morning (that I sat on a 3+ year waiting list to get), and discovered that every mini-USB cable that I have went AWOL so I can't power up the unit to test my soldering.....

Seriously? I must have 15 or 20 mini-usb cables. They come with everything these days. No Walmart or drugstore nearby?

I know that I have two mini-USB cables that I use monthly for medical device charging, and both are AWOL at the moment. I have a metric crap-ton of the more common micro-USB cables, and give them to our elderly neighbors to tie up the tomato plants in their garden: Yeah, I could hit a retail store and over-pay for a junk mini-USB cable just to hear the board beep and lights flash. With the uber-sensitive nature of the lightning sensor's VLF receivers (that can detect lightning strikes in Europe from the USA), I really needed to buy a quality shielded power cable with a ferrite donut anyway to keep the RF interference away from the unit. After sitting on a waiting list for 3+ years waiting to buy the kit, another few days to power it up isn't going to kill me.....

You running a weather station or something? The only lightning detectors I've seen are those used for taking pictures of lightning. You attach them to a camera.

There are several consumer home and portable lightning detectors on the market for under $35, based on the Franklin AS3935 detector chip. It has a ~25 mile range on a good day, and in terms of instrument quality is only useful for pulling kids off of a soccer pitch before the storms get there. I have four of them around the house/yard in different orientations, and there have been times where more than one never triggered once during a passing storm. A handful of guys in Europe came up with an idea for a long-range coordinated lightning sensor network. Using their hardware, it is common for stations on islands in the Indian Ocean to detect storms in Texas and Oklahoma. I was on the waiting list for over 3 years to qualify for the opportunity to buy one of their 350 Euro sensor kits, and finally made it to the top of the list to place an order a few weeks ago. Their setup isn't meant for local detection like the Franklin AS3935, but rather long-range aggregate detection for a crowd-sourced database. I also run an ADS-B receiver at home, and send the received aircraft location data to two different crowd-sourced airplane trackers...which might be useful to someone stuck at an airport waiting on their delayed flight to arrive. There's a similar setup for tracking marine traffic, in case anyone is waiting for their ship to come in.....

Waiting on the Limited Edition Tool album to be delivered to my door on August 30th.
Also waiting on September 15th so I can end this bulk phase. I spent 8 months busting my ass to drop almost 70 pounds and now I'm trying to add muscle. Going from 1800 calories/day to 3600 calories/day is no fun. Two weeks in and I feel like I'm pregnant. Also waiting on the next phase of the car build. I have some financial stuff that I need to tend to, so the build is going to wait until spring most likely. All the vinyl wrap, smoked headlights & taillights, new floor liners, paddle shift extensions and chrome delete is done. Next up are down springs, painting calipers, changing brake pads to no dust and possibly drilled rotors. Responsibility first, toys second. |
