I watched the opening ceremony tonite. i never thought much of it until i see the reviews this morning and decided to watch it. AMAZING .. probably the BEST EVER and i dont think another country is going to even come close for a loooong time. china spent alotta money, time, and planning into this and you can tell - 40+ billion dollars.. just unreal. if you missed it, you should def. try to get some of the highlights.. it's def. worth it. the only thing i "skiped" on is the walkin ceremony when they introduced all the diff countries and its athletes..that was boring. but the opening shows/performance were top notch and the ending was awsome. now time to get into the real games |

I'm pretty sure nobody would look in the 'Chinese Bread and Circuses' and 'Millions Worldwide Buy Load of Shit' threads.
Seriously, this thread is testament to the power of Chinese propaganda. |

to Chinese Olympic 2008 opening ceremony.
That is the most fireworks I have ever seen in one sitting... Olympics 08 owns Disneyland.

The Olympics have always been political because it is an event where different countries with different cultural, religious, political, etc. backgrounds can come together and compete based on common ground: love for their individual sport.
It is discomforting, however, that the international public as a whole had turned their eyes away from some blatant Chinese propaganda. China pressures other countries to abide to their will with their current economic position. Being Taiwanese, I was pretty upset that Taiwan is not recognized as its own country, and could not wave its own flag. Instead, Taiwan had to be called "Chinese Taipei." This has been ongoing for years, and many countries, including the United States do not "officially" recognize Taiwan as an independent country because of economic consequences China would bring on any country that does. |

there are so many threads already existing that one can discuss the so called China propaganda.. leave this thread to what it is - just olympics and its games.
i'm a bball fan, can't wait till sunday when the US vs. China bball starts.. awsome stuff. Im pretty confident the US team will win us a gold this year.. but, not going to be an easy journey though. |
