we had a dog that developed some kind of back problems, had surgery, and it was discovered she had some sort of preexisting spinal fungus. dog started to shut down after about six months from the fungal meds and died shortly thereafter. cost upwards of $8k for all that nonsense and the dog still died. moving forward, we decided we aren't doing animal surgeries. if the dog has a broken foot or something, fine, but we aren't doing internal stuff or unknown problem surgeries anymore.

Glad to hear your pet is doing good Matticus!
Our miniature Schanauzer is pretty good about not eating things. But he's a little thief though. He will take things and run us around the house. He knows what he is doing and thinks it's funny. Plus he has destroyed pretty much any toy we've ever given him. We will get him something thinking he can't tear this up, and he proves us wrong. Weirdest thing is that he has a stuffed toy that was his first play thing when he was a baby. It's the most fragile thing he has, but it's the only toy that he has that he takes everywhere, and it doesn't have a single bit of damage on it. |

My dog - in rough order of occurrence:
* Attacked by escaped fighting dog in Chicago, required leg surgery to repair puncture wound * Gallbladder removed due to infection * Odd immune flare up causing all of glands to swell - rocket ship was stuck out for 2 weeks * Bone marrow biopsy * Repeated scopes, scans, etc. * Food allergies 13 and still kicking. At the vet monthly for labs and monitoring but luckily very happy little guy. He made his bones when my father died and he refused to leave his hospital bed for the last 4 days. Snarled at anyone who tried to move him. Can't put a price on that.

Glad your dog is doing better.
We had a Italian Mastiff (Cane Corso) that was always up to something. One time when she was 11 months old we took her along to a basketball game. I had planned on letting her out of the car to pee at halftime. Well at halftime I go out there and discovered she had chewed on the gear shifter to the point it wouldn't shift anymore. Luckily she didn't eat it but definitely destroyed it. The tow truck driver refused to let her ride in his cab, he was scared. I think it was like $900 to fix... good times. |

My dog tried to eat a live bee. Obviously it stung her in retaliation. I didn’t think anything of it but it turns out she is very allergic. We got home from the walk and I started looking at something on the computer. She came up to my desk a few minutes later and her face was swollen to twice it’s size and she was having trouble breathing. I rusherd her to the emergency clinic and they gave her an IV of antihistamines. Thankfully she ended up fine.

I have a 5 year old Rottweiler with nothing but medical issues. He had chronic diarrhea , IBS , acra lick granuloma , pancreatitis , going blind and to top it off diabetes. We spent around $13,000 on him. I don't think he will make 6 . The poor guy is a big bundle of love.

we will not blindly throw money at a vet/surgeon/oncologist/lab for some unknown condition and prolong a dog's suffering. we were pretty pissed for a few reasons, the lab that cultured our dog's back sample had contaminated the sample and the dog was on the wrong anti-fungal meds for months. as much as we tried to keep the dog comfortable during recovery while vets said it would likely take time for the dog to get better, the dog was on the wrong meds and suffering. she was pain free for a few months after the surgery, and we are happy for that, but the four months following that were agonizing and borderline selfish [opinion] to keep her alive. of course, this is with the benefit of hindsight. we paid upwards of $8k to prolong a dog's suffering. we didn't realize this until after this event and emotions subsided. the money wasn't as painful as the rest of it.
