Personally I don't care much about the 1xx-2xx-3xx-4xx thingy...
On the other hand I don't really appreciate the fact that the xx part of the number somehow indicates the power rather than the engine. I mean, the 2 liter could be a 320, 325, 330 and so on I'm one of those that really likes the 4 GC for it's trunk versatility since I really don't like wagons. As silly as it sounds, I also like much more the design when compared to the 3 series from which it comes from. |

Also it's not exactly a new thing. I had a 1999 316i compact with a 1,9 liter engine, for example. |

At the end of the day I prefer to have no badges for a cleaner look so that it probably doesn't matter much I hope they keep the GC. |

Pretty self-explanatory. The sheep that make up the populace prefer CUVs/SUVs as sitting up "higher" gives them more confidence behind the wheel. Americans in general have always wanted big cars that are like a couch on wheels. Manufacturers can command higher prices on such vehicles.
Personally, these vehicles make me feel like I'm going to tip over when I [routinely] take corners extremely fast. The BMW and Porsche offerings are about as "fun" as they are going to get. Also, the Gran Coupes can command premium pricing. People like me would rather be driving something sleek and "different" like those than your run-of-the-mill three-box sedan. |

Not limited to just BMW as most manufacturers (foreign and domestic) are increasing size and style of SUVs while reducing, if not discontinuing sedan models. Just look at Ford. |

It was much better then:
3 series -> 2 doors 5 series -> 4 doors 6 series -> 2 door boulevard cruiser 7 series -> 4 door pretentious big car. Especially the L versions. |
