Everyone is doing 4 (or 5) door coupés these days whether you like it or not.

Why so much hate? BMW has enough cars for everyone, just pick the right one and enjoy.
And who cares if it's called M3 or M4 or F80 or F82...?
I agree, seems to be much ado about nothing...........

Personally I don't care much about the 1xx-2xx-3xx-4xx thingy...
On the other hand I don't really appreciate the fact that the xx part of the number somehow indicates the power rather than the engine. I mean, the 2 liter could be a 320, 325, 330 and so on

I'm one of those that really likes the 4 GC for it's trunk versatility since I really don't like wagons.
As silly as it sounds, I also like much more the design when compared to the 3 series from which it comes from.

Yes but how to differentiate them if all are called 320i?
Also it's not exactly a new thing. I had a 1999 316i compact with a 1,9 liter engine, for example.

You are right... but it still confuses me

At the end of the day I prefer to have no badges for a cleaner look so that it probably doesn't matter much

I hope they keep the GC.

Pretty self-explanatory. The sheep that make up the populace prefer CUVs/SUVs as sitting up "higher" gives them more confidence behind the wheel. Americans in general have always wanted big cars that are like a couch on wheels. Manufacturers can command higher prices on such vehicles.

Personally, these vehicles make me feel like I'm going to tip over when I [routinely] take corners extremely fast. The BMW and Porsche offerings are about as "fun" as they are going to get.

Also, the Gran Coupes can command premium pricing. People like me would rather be driving something sleek and "different" like those than your run-of-the-mill three-box sedan.

Because SUVs sell, and it’s what Customers prefer over sedans.

Not limited to just BMW as most manufacturers (foreign and domestic) are increasing size and style of SUVs while reducing, if not discontinuing sedan models. Just look at Ford.

Actually the original 3 was a two door. I had on in 1979. The 4 door came much later unfortunately.

It was much better then:

3 series -> 2 doors
5 series -> 4 doors
6 series -> 2 door boulevard cruiser
7 series -> 4 door pretentious big car. Especially the L versions.
