Every rain repealing thing will cause streak or residue over time.

Just clean it properly every time you wash your car and clay bar if it becomes really bad. Haven't had much issues doing so.

Like some of you, I am absolutely OCD about clean glass. Moreover, I live in the tropics where it rains year round, so water beading, wiper noise (or lack thereof), and visibility in the rain is of utmost importance. Also, we use our wipers so regularly, any coating/repellent has to be able to take wiper abuse and still last a long time.

I've used many different types of glass coatings and rain repellents, including the dreaded RainX (absolute rubbish. Good when it was the only product available 20 years ago, but long surpassed by other stuff).

The best I've ever used, and the one I still swear by today, is Ultra Glaco (black bottle) from Soft99. It's a Japanese product and available from Amazon. It is super easy to apply - wipe on using the applicator bottle, let it dry into a haze (5-10 mins), wipe off with clean cloth. It wipes off clean with one swipe, I kid you not! Anyone who's ever tried to clean RainX after application knows what a bitch RainX is to apply. Ultra Glaco recommends letting the coating 'cure' for 12 hours for best effect, so just plan some downtime after application.

Ultra Glaco repellency is supposed to last 12 months. In my kind of weather, it's closer to 4-5 months, which is about 4 months longer than RainX. Water beading effect is fantastic, and rain flies up and off the windscreen at about 60kph. The water beads are smaller than RainX beads and wiper doesn't chatter on the coating (trust me, we have to use our wipers a lot here!). Most importantly, the coating also repels dirt, so I wind up cleaning my windshield less as well.

Soft99 also sells a glass cleaner as pre-prep for Ultra Glaco, or if you want to remove Ultra Glaco in future. I've never had to use it.

I use a rayon pad with Griots glass polish on my Flex3401. No fuss and absolutely no mess. Well the polish takes a couple of Costco yellows before it is polish free.

That's the easy way to a clean windshield. I'm not worried about correction, I am polishing for clean.
Stoners first, clay second, glass polish third followed by Optimum paint prep. Lately I have been using Optimum glass coating but before that I would just use Collinite 845.

Before I bought the Flex, I used my 7424XP with a lake country orange pad and some Meguiars Ultimate compound.

The amount of mess and time it takes to do it right is no where near offsetting the cost to pay my $250 deductible and just have the windshield replaced with a brand new one. Bonus points, comprehensive covers this - not collision, so no increase in premiums no matter how much you do it.
Arguably my favorite piece of advice in this entire forum.

I just use the methanol runnings from distilling ... smells nice and does not leave any streaks. I figure if I am ever pulled over by the police one squirt will make them wonder ...

I use Spray Away in the house. I used it this weekend on the windshield with the micro fibre cloths using the method in the video someone posted here doing it in a circular motion. It worked pretty good. The waffle weave micro fibre cloths just came and I got the Stoner and the clay. Will try this weekend if the weather is dry.

Thanks all!

Spray Away is the best and safest glass cleaner you can use!

This is what the detail and tint shops in my area use as it is safe both inside and out, tinted or not.

Most everyone here has been posting about polishing or putting some kind of rain repelling barrier on their windshield.
This is the first quality post about actually cleaning a windshield.

Thanks. I thought maybe I was doing it wrong not using liquid glass molecular non-gmo polishing compound developed by NASA applied by a triple baked Yak hide hexagonal sham-wow pad followed by a clay bar diamond blasting and electro-ceramic nano-coat.

I'm in the Sprayaway club. Used Stoners then the Griot's garage cleaner for a while (liked the Griot's).

On a related note though, for our pitted BMW windshield glass (because who's isn't pitted) I'm finding that after cleaning the glass, a water rinse and wipe reduces the visibility of the micro-pits. My guess is that some of the cleaning solution remains in the pits, dries and makes the pits more visible in bright, direct, low angle sunlight (i.e. first thing in the morning).

Thoughts?

PS: I had my windshield replaced 5 years ago with Sekurit glass from the dealer and straightaway it wasn't crystal clear in direct morning sunlight.

I also use Sprayaway on interior glass for cleaning. I used to use invisible glass, Chemical Guys glass cleaner (horrible glass cleaner), Windex and a bunch of other stuff.

I saw someone using Sprayaway on nasty dirty windshields in a body shop and got a bottle. Haven't changed since. It cuts through build up like no other glass cleaner.

I love the smell it leaves too. I wonder if it comes in cologne form?
