A quick search turned up a couple of tunes that claim a 20 HP increase.

I almost traded it in for the 2018 6 Grand Touring/Signature just to get 2.5 Turbo engine which is 250hp/310ft-lb. Only offered in automatic unfortunately... |

I had a Mazda 3 hatch with a manual and that 2.5L is the worst engine I've ever had in a car. If you've driven the F56 Cooper S, it's very similar and wildly disappointing since the Mazda is N/A. Tons of torque at partial throttle, but seemingly no more at WOT, tons of throttle lag and it absolutely hates to rev. Anything over 4,500 rpm is a waste.
My GTI is such a better car in nearly every way, but you're four inches taller than me so the back seat of either will be non adult inhabitable. |

You know what, the things I saw were not for the 2.5T. I only looked for the standard 2.5L as you said it had to be a manual and from what I see that is the only engine available with one.

Almost no exhaust options exist, no headers and the air boxes all test as more restrictive than stock. I'd have loved a header to move the powerband up the curve and let that thing rev a little, but no one is interested in helping that lump. Have I mentioned the harsh suspension, 22-23 mpg and that mine was totaled in a disturbingly minor accident? Of note though, the new one looks wildly better and will get the semi-sparkles compression motor, so you could probably get a heck of a deal on the ones on dealer lots now, although you're probably more suited to the even older 6, which might still be two years away from a new model, but there has been some chatter that they'll bring awd and the wagon for that new 6. |

Dude, sweet list but buy something like a Honda CR-V...I've got two, both DDs, his and hers.
One has 181K miles and the other 225K...they are paid off, easy to fix, easy on gas, easy on insurance, AWD, four doors, room for dogs, bikes or 4'x8' sheets of plywood (backdoor open). And inconsiderate buttholes at the grocery stores have given each of them 10+ door dings but who cares...I don't. Practically free transportation for life is what a Honda CR-V promises... I'm thinking about turbocharging or supercharging my 2.4 liter VTEC to surprise a mustang one of these days ;-)

My vote goes to the Mazda6... stylish, fun to drive, comfy, reliable, and a fuel sipper.

Chevy SS. Big fuck off V8, acres of space and the lads in melbourne do wonders with suspension dynamics (we aussies prefer sporty handling but have bad roads so she still soaks up the bumps).
Comes in manual. Done. |

Most of these are random comments. We know from your first post that you want a manual transmission and a car big enough for your size.
What else are you looking for in a DD? fuel economy? Power? Storage? large storage (SUV vs stationwagon vs. sedan etc.). Driver assistance features? parallel parking? interior finishes? etc. Without this detailed information, we are merely giving you our personal preferences based on our needs and wants, not yours. |
