you cant keep the phone if you cancel the contract. It was in the statement Apple sent to AT&T and it said that if someone cancels a contract, they must return the phone as well.

at&t blows. you should be able to buy both phones for 599 and 699. Do you think the 8 gig is sufficient?

I went at 4:30 pm to the one here in Brandon Town centre and got my 16gb White one, it was only a 30 minute wait. 299, alot cheaper than the 599 I paid for the first one.

I initially thought I would go for the white, but I looked at this lady's white iPhone in the store, and decided I didn't like the color combination. Which is weird because it's the same as my car's

ha. i was thinking of getting a white one too, because my car is also white, but i will probably be getting back one instead.

do you know how closely white one matches to AW paint? and i assume it does not have "orange peel" paint, right? lol

I have to wait until February to be eligible for upgrade. I might just pay for it outright though because I hate contracts. I'm sure the price will come down again though from $699 with no contract or they'll increase it to 32gb. If I just wait until February, I might as well wait for the third generation since they're planning on making a new one every year.

If i were you i would go in there w/ a friend or family member and sign up for the contract and buy the phone for 299$, cancel after a month for $175 ( the flat ATT fee for terminating your 2 yr contract).. actually comes out to $170 to cancel, because they reduce the cancelation fee by 5$ a month for every month you have the phone.
Total cost: 299+170+30( activation?)+80( First months service) = 579 vs 699? Sounds like alot of trouble, but u end up saving $120.

I was considering that option. The thing is I want to keep my number and I'm not sure if I can do that. The other option the guy at ATT said we had was to add another line for 10 bux a month and make that the iPhone line, which still requires a number change as far as I know.

Everyone headed for the city, and I went to the burbs and was second in line, turned up at 6.30am, store opened at 7, walked right in and got one. I am so pleased with it, works flawlessly with my iDrive, and connected first try with my Exchange Server at work, beats my Moto Q9h hands down, and that is even before we talk batter life

Only flaw was that I had to go pre-paid because I need to unlock the phone to get it onto the network carrier that we use at work so I could only get an 8Gb one, wanted a 16Gb white Consoled myself with the knowledge that in a year they will probably launch a 32 or 64Gb one and I will get what I want then, until then the 8Gb will be fine for what I need

Would you say the speed is like being on wifi constantly or a little bit slower?

US has slow 3G speeds, - 3Mbps isn't it? I can't see how that would be as fast at wifi which is 54 or 108Mbps, even if you only actually achieved quarter of the speed with wifi, that is 12 - 25Mbps, still faster than 3G

Steve Jobs was gilding the lilly a bit too much when he made that claim.

Here we have 7.2Mbps 3G and soon 14Mbps, those speeds may be more like wifi, but then you come to the max speed of the device in terms of processing power (phones aren't normally speed demons) and also saturation - the more people browsing data in your cell, the less bandwidth for you as they only have so much backhaul bandwidth at each cell tower...

3G is definitely slower than WiFi. But it's not essentially unusable and a waste of time unless you really need to know something like EDGE is.
