see? now I feel bad.
This would be a good time to remember that back when we were building Corvettes with pushrod sixes and two-speed powerglide transmissions, Alfa did this: |

Oh, I don't think any of us are arguing that Alfa doesn't build beautiful sports cars. They do, and I absolutely loved driving mine. When I could.
I believe that is the ultimate sin, to create something so wonderful yet forbid those who purchase one from enjoying it, due to reliability issues. |

Basically:
- Italians are fantastic designers. - Italians are masterful fabricators. (This explains the success of small auto companies there.) - Italians are horrific manufacturers. See the distinction?

What the C&D update basically says is that the Giulia was due for a diff change. A car that has been in the fleet of a car magazine. It's not a big deal. I'm sure that M diffs have been replaced under warranty.
I am not Alfista, have never owned one. Alfisti are kinda stuck in the past, a bit like communists, I would think. But the Giulia is a GLORIOUS car in every way. Last edited by gnx; 10-05-2018 at 09:05 AM.. |

Agreed. Actually both modern Ferrari V6's, the Alfa 2.9L and Maserati 3.0L, sound pretty damn awesome.

I almost made this move (a Giulia following my M235i lease ending) but I'm glad I decided against it and ordered an M340i.
A buddy has a 4C and whenever he takes his car in for service it's backed up behind dozens of problematic Giulias. They do have solid driving dynamics and can be had for a deal, but it doesn't take many issues for the "savings" to not be worth it because of the amount of time consumed for repairs. |
