Had my last longer stay into A'dam at hall 2015.
Stayed at the Mercure Amsterdam Central (Noorderstraat 46), Breakfast and a good bed, what to need more? Visit Madame Tussauds Amsterdam, dont forget to have a look at one of the diamond grinder facilities, the red light district, torture museum and a canal tour. Hard Rock Café (if you collecting the shirts), Anne Frank house, the open flower markets into the streets, licorice shops, poffertjes... Enjoy your stay! No! First they have to give us back Elsaß-Lothingen!!

I prefer Jupiler(Belgian)/Hertog Jan(Dutch) , but Amstel and Warsteiner are also ok. It's a personal preference, my friends and son(just 18) prefer Heineken just because it's the most renown brand in the world and I wouldn't spit in it either if I go out to drink something. It's not that bad. It's the Volkswagen of Beers so to speak Cheers Robin

Belgica ( Gallia Belgica ) was the Roman word for the later Belgium (Belgie) But earlier in time it was called *Belgae* by the Celts . I'm pretty sure you know what happened over here when Julius Caesar came to conquer my home town ! It was in 54 BC (54 before Christ) when the Roman sucker Caesar came to *Atuatuca Tungrorum* today it's called Tongeren. But my ancestor *Ambiorix* kicked first the Roman asses and no one from the Roman legion returned ever to Rome alive . One Roman legion was 6,000 man strong , and it was the best and strongest army in the world ! After 2 years the Roman sucker came back with 9 legions => 54,000 Roman soldiers and Ambiorix had no chance with his little tribe called the Eburones ! And so finally the Romans conquered the world... That's how Gallia Belgica was changed in Belgium => Belgie And my home town *Atuatuca Tungrorum* was changed into Tongeren . And that's why my home town is the oldest town from Belgium... In my home town you can see the traces from the historical war everywhere , and my house is built on the ground of the battlefield .. (Check also my Avatar pic)

No worries I understand.
I'm a Frisian(born where Mata Hari was born, capital of Friesland) and my ancestors 12th/13th century are from an island in the North of our province, called Terschelling. They fought with Prusian armies together in Jerusalem in one of the crusades. Our family stayed Roman Catholic through the centuries though many up north in NL are protestant(I'm not religious btw)because of the Dutch Spanish war (1568-1648) Anyway this is what I meant: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United...he_Netherlands When the Battle of Waterloo was fought it was at that time 'the Netherlands'. That's what I wanted to say https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Waterloo But hey I hate EU/Brussels politics and stuff but I love Belgium(I studied in Antwerp from 1989-1991) Cheers Robin

From working in numerous pan European projects, I can tell you: Flanders is incompatible with the Netherlands. On the other hand, Netherlands + Germany/Austria/any Scandinavian country including Denmark/UK/Ireland = it's a fit!

Hi. I used to live in Holland. Amsterdam is a great city. First, be prepared..Dutch weather is notoriously rainy. If it is a nice day, definitely rent a bike. If you are comfortable on a bike, it is the best way to see the city. The city is not so easy to navigate, it was designed like a maze/spiderweb to confuse invaders. But it can be an amazingly beautiful experience getting lost along the many canal streets....again...weather permitting. Be careful and mindful of traffic while riding. The city is always moving/bustling. Do not get in the local's way...the Dutch are fierce cyclists and are not fond of annoying tourists fumbling about on their commute.
Head down to the VondlePark, the cities central park..there is a cool little cafe in the center to grab a beer. Nice boutique hotels around the park area. The Heineken museum is ok. It used to be amazing (bottomless beer afterwards) but they changed it a few years ago (One beer). Go into a cheese shop and politely ask to try some of their oldest goudas etc. Their really old cheeses 9-11 years have some crazy crystalline texture and flavor that is next level. Maybe go in after a coffee shop stop. Check out a flower shop. Dutch botanists created the tulips and have incredible variety. Back in the golden era tulip bulbs used to be bitcoin valuable and were used as currency. Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum are awesome. As are the catherdrals. There is an ancient one in the Red Light district. Coffeeshops... There is a very cool on called Cafe Abraxis and it is in a tiny alley near the centrum. The OG spot with jah good herbs is called The Dampkring. Try to steer clear of the touristy Red Light district ones. Although go for a stroll through the redlight district and all the tiny alleys. Good entertainment. Some girls have huge lines waiting outside their door! Just don't too late at night this area can get sketch. Magic Mushrooms are now illegal, but fear not because they have psylicibin containing truffles called Philosopher's stones available at all Smart Shops. Be careful with these. They are sold in different strengths like hot sauce. The strong ones....are strong! Last edited by Hammer Werke; 01-31-2018 at 05:44 PM.. Reason: added some more |
