We don't have to evac the whole state, just a few neighborhoods in the hills or bordering uninhabitated areas. Also, I pay less than $1.8k a month mortgage on my larger than 1000 sq foot home, because I brought it before prices went through the roof.

I thought you were talking about 1970s to 1980s. I was looking for nostalgia lol.

I love when people bring up the drought. Do people in other parts of the country leave their faucets running 24/7 or something?
I never think to conserve water and am low on water usage according to my water district. I do turn off the water when I brush my teeth. I also use a hose that has a shut off handle while washing my car. Maybe, I don't use much water because I have a lot size that is .0000000001 acre (whatever an acre means, haha) People also talk about gun laws and all these other weird i-hate-ca things that never seem to impact me in my daily life. Then again, maybe shooting things in your backyard is normal for some people. If I put a gun outside of a window in my house, it would be in my neighbor's window. ;P |

People seem to forget that California is a big state, about the size of the original 13 colonies combined, so there's a huge variation from one part to another.
I have a four mile commute to my office. If traffic is really busy, it takes ten minutes. I own a 3,000 square foot house on five acres, with a swimming pool terraced on the hillside. I can see sixty miles across the valley to the coastal range and have a half dozen wineries within 20 minutes. I bought it two years ago for less than 400k. Although restaurants are a bit lacking, I can be in Sacramento in a little over an hour and San Francisco in under three, and I can be skiing at Lake Tahoe in an hour and a half. It occasionally gets down to freezing here, but only snows once a decade or so, and that rarely sticks. |

Somewhere between 2/3 - 3/4 of the California population are in the Bay Area and the greater LA area (including going down to San Diego). Throw another 2-2.5M in the Sacramento area and you are down to maybe 7M people spread out through the remainder of a quite large state. I always found it funny that most people (even Californians) consider the Bay Area to be Northern California, although it is much more accurate to consider it a part of Central California. There is a whole lot of very magnificent country north of the greater Bay Area! Of course there aren't a whole lot of jobs in those areas either. I spent a fair amount of time in both Oroville and Chico back in the 70's and always loved it up there. Definitely one of the better places to live in CA. |

Tomorrow we are going fishing and don't need an auger to get to the water

California residents...please don't defend our state. We got enough people here already. Now i gotta get back to driving my 3 hour commute before the next big earthquake hits (takes a sip of dirt to quench thirst)...

You're doing pretty well for yourself - 400k is pricey considering the income for that area. You can find homes for much less there.

I saw on the news last night that LA's total rainfall for the season (starts July 1?) is 0.12 inches. Not sure if that was dew on the cars this morning, or if something actually fell last night. |
