I'm with Bangle, always have been. His designs were always polarizing to me. His successor did a great job with the F10 though, but where things are going with the G generation of BMW's today and also other manufacturer designs, I am not digging it. The only progressive work I see coming from BMW these days are from i Division. The new i5 looks promising design wise. But other companies like Mercedes and Audi are also playing it too safe with their progressing generations of cars. About the only design I really enjoy of the new G-chassis's is the new G11. I think the G-11 7-Series looks a whole lot better than the F01. For the G30 though, I wish I could say the same, the G30 is simply too similar to the F10 and they didn't do enough of a design change to make it truly stand out from the F10. I hope the G20 will be a big enough change design wise from the F30 though.
Regarding the future of BMW design. I am not excited. I read that the new 8-Series is supposed to represent the future of BMW design in many of the future models and if this is true I don't see much drastic or significantly better design cues that I personally like. What would make me happy is if they got rid of the floating iDrive screen design and got rid of the design that makes the headlights touch the grille. I really hate those 2 things about modern BMW's. Which is why I love the F10 so much, one of the only BMW designs to not incorporate either of those 2 design elements. I can only imagine what BMW's would look like today if Bangle were still there. I guess we'll get a sense of his modern design philosophy on this mystery manufacturing company he speaks of.

I absolutely love the E60; even the stupid double hump on the dashboard and the polarizing eyebrows over the headlights. My 2010 535 is still my favorite car ever. Like it even more so than my current F10 M5.

Pre-LCI E90 looks better to me, but the LCI E60 looks better to me than the Pre-LCI E60. The F30 has grown on me, but I still think the E90 looks better. I never really liked the non-M versions of the E60, except for maybe the LCI 550i, it had pretty good looking wheels, but the E60 M5 I am in love with and always will be.

The e90 had the top chrome grill surround on the hood looking like a weird mustache and the tail lights were awkward shaped. The e90 LCI also had a better looking sportier hood.

Still loving my Bangle-designed E85 Z4. I never understood the negative comments about its looks. Even Richard Hammond complimented the design in the Top Gear review of the Z4M roadster.
I wonder what Bangle thinks of the upcoming G29 Z4. Whether you like it or not, I think most will have to agree that its not more of the same in terms of design.

I think Bangle means Douche in Swahili I wish this guy goes away. Ruined so many BMWs. He made enough crazy designs that some innovation came out but the majority of his stuff is awful and he doesn't get it. Bangle, Go away please!

exactly. I think the E60 is one of the best looking cars out there. Even that E85 is IMO one of the best looking designs out there. The E9X will just go down as a classic design, I haven't heard anyone grumble about this one.

besides the z4 everything else Bangle especially the Bangle butt wad damn awful. Bangle was too much out there and the current BMW'S are too conservative aside from the 6 and 4 series. the upcoming z4 and z8 looks promising though.

And the double hump still grates immensely simply because there are much better ways to integrate a screen... I've also come to love the iDrive concept, so I can appreciate pieces without hating the whole.

I just hope this isn't Segway part II. when I worked at Target they had him come in as part of a design speaker series. It was the only time they had to turn people away at the door, he was incredibly social and personable. I loved his push for design and his one quote, "same sausage just a different length".

No love loss here for Obama. Plenty happy for him to stay in the shadows.

Bangle is arguably THE designer of the 2000's. The cars he designed or oversaw were polarising but everybody afterwards copied him. His most famous design element, so called "flame surfacing" has had a huge influence in the complex surface treatments of the cars we know today and had manufacturers made huge advances in sheetmetal forming...
Another thing you can say about him is that under his supervision, all the BMW series had their own identity (not like today where a 5 is similar to a 7 etc) whilst undoubtedly sharing the same DNA. BMW has always struggled to I really admire him, maybe not for his creations, but for the overall influence he had and still has in car design. And he had the courage to walk out of the car industry to do his own design projects.

Going Slightly off topic, one of Bangle's iconic models, the E63 6 Series is regarded as a future classic by Classic Car Mart.

I always liked the rear of the E63, I just didnt like the headlights. It was pretty cool for the day and definitely different. While I dont agree with all his designs at least he tried something different. He is correct that pretty much everything looks the same these days.
