I'm with RickFLm4 , that movie captured a very special time in our country. That confluence of events, Mariel boat lift, Columbia cartel uptic, banking corruption, economy surge, Mack 10 availability, same as how super storm Sandy destroyed my house. Very difficult to align all those stars. No Need to see it again, been there done that. I worked in Narco, violent crimes and OC from 1977 to 2011, in what some would call little Miami, Hudson County, Union City NJ the second most densely populated Mariel refuge depository. I like Scarface but I love Donny Brasco for a fair depiction of a criminal enterprise and it 's demise. https://s.aolcdn.com/webmail-static/...main24_new.png Fouth from the left sitting on a 765 Kilo seizure 1981 photo not showing do not know how to post it, thought I could post link but aparently not.

Why does the movie industry feel the need to remake movies?! Not only remake but change plots, scripts etc! One reason and one reason only!...MONEY!! All the remakes I can think of are shit!! Footloose, karate kid, total recall just to name a few, all rubbish! So yeah I say churn them all out, let's do Rocky with Zak efron as lead and back to the future with Shia lebouf. Oh let's do star wars again with Johnny depp as Han solo! Rant over!!

Why remake it at all? Seems like that's all Hollywood does anymore, remakes and endless 'sequels' (See Fast & Furious 49)
Sure, except Blow was based on a true story. Jung was/is a real-life drug lord.

Right, and basically any drug dealer story (those who were caught or killed) follows the same basic plot: start at the bottom, rise to the top, decline (usually due to flaws or poor decisions). That said, labeling it "scarface" definitely raises the bar. I'll watch, but in general, I think reboots fall flat by a long shot. I also agree that doing a semi-biographical movie (blow, donnie brasco, casino) or capturing a moment in time (83 scarface) definitely adds to the feel and legitimacy of these types of movies. GENERALLY speaking, the ones that are complete fiction just aren't at the same level.

Yes, I know. They really beat you over the head with that fact at the end.

Then why did you imply it was a remake of Scarface? It's like saying 'Band of Brothers' was just a remake of 'Saving Private Ryan'.

I also said "pseudo-Scarface-reboot." I didn't imply that it was an actual remake.

I think it was - the only real way they compare is that they both deal with the drug trade.

Don't fuck it up Hollywood. EDIT: And before someone corrects me, yes I know the 80's movie was a remake of another movie from like the 40's or something. I see that the script is being done by the Coen Brothers so that's promising. |

Best remake yet IMHO; Don't remember where on this forum I first saw this, so I looked it up again.
And you can't really just reset the locale - it was about the shift from 'easy rider' dealers to the ultraviolence of the new era. |
