We had a 95 LTW with 104mi on the odometer from Paul Walker's collection for a PPI before it was purchased from an out of state buyer.

Last I heard, it sold for ~$200K. This is cheap for a great piece of BMW history.

Those hating on the car or the owner- do you really think the owner needed an investment if he bought cars he never drove? Could he have made more? Sure. Did he need to? Apparently not.
If the car had been driven, I would agree.

That's losing a lot of earning potential for just having the privilege of looking at an M3 lightweight in your garage for 20 years.
Apparently you missed my point so I'll try another angle. Do you or anyone you know own something just because you want to, regardless of cost?

If you read the listing, the spoiler and other bits are in the trunk. Never mounted.

That's crazy because unlike the 1M (with waiting lists), dealers couldn't give these cars away when new and BMW had to offer big incentives. IIRC, they were going for thousands less than regular M3s.

I wondered if it was one from Paul Walker's collection, didn't he have a handful of them with almost no mileage?

They would let you know if it was one of Paul's cars...

The one I'm referring to had the low miles as was originally purchased in California. The one in auction is originally from an Ohio dealership.

Looks like the rear spoiler might be packaged up and included in with the car. Just hasn't been installed.

Regardless, I don't see anything wrong with preserving a piece of motorsport history. It would make a great addition to the BMW Welt Museum.
It's typical as an option to install along with other original 95 LTW parts that often came w the cars.

Part of the allure in these is the potential for home-built versions. I always admired Colin Chapman's 'added lightness' approach, especially b/c it fit my budget much better (until you get to the unobtanium pieces) - easy to ditch a few hundred pounds if you don't mind tossing the rear seats, insulator pads, and spare tires. They also become the unicorns that keep you interested when scouting old cars (or painful 'one that got away' stories). And the financial data is a good reminder that, despite today's TV auction bombardment, cars have never been a good investment tool (even before you factor in the storage, maintenance and upkeep).

At least a car addiction, while costly, isn't as bad as an opiate addiction. When in doubt I can justify pretty much anything by comparing it to needle drugs. As if needle drugs are the only alternative

I don't think this one should be worth anywhere near as much as PW's LTW, as this doesn't have its history. I'm frankly surprised it's already at $133k.

But as an E36 M3 owner, I definitely don't mind the prices of these cars going up in value

Out of respect for the family, the car was never marketed with his name attached. Not sure if the new owner was passed along the info or not.

reserve not met at >150k? More like 'bring a straightjacket and some thorazine' (or some of those glow sticks that the kids like when they are buzzing away in chemical la-la land). That is, unless you are the type of billionaire collector that just needs one of everything, mint.

And Kudos to those that actually raced them - at the end of the day, you can't make up for lost experiences with investment cash..
