If you want something cheap I just helped my uncle get a car. Ended up with a 2016 CPO Hyundai Accent they can be had fro around 10k with super low miles practically a brand new car. 10 year 100k powertrain warranty. The Elantras are cheap also if you want something bigger.
I have a 2015 Cooper S loaded with JCW package and what not and I love it, but I'm not sure you will be able to get any decent CPO Mini for that price. As others have mentioned you can probably get a CPO VW for your budget if you want to go the more fun route. I've owned a few, never kept them past warranty, but didn't have any major issues while under warranty. |

Don't forget about Kia for a kid. We bought one for my SIL and the only issue we had was with the driver's unknown DUI (x2) when the police impounded it and I had to pay for 30 days of storage fees. I drove it for a while after that as a commuter. 10/100K warranty that I never had to deal with.
Assuming she will still be living at home, so don't need space to haul things to dorm. |

Haven't been on in a minute. Looking at numerous cars online is fun but time consuming as one day I'm pulling towards civics and another day looking at Hyundai's. However, a local VW dealer has numerous 2017 Jetta's for $14.7K new with the 1.4 turbo so I'll be looking at those tomorrow morning and see what's up. Though, still on the fence about doing this now or waiting till the spring but we shall see.
