I would take the GT4 with those two as the choice. GT cars are quite special.

As for the op I wouldn't even consider the r-tronic it would be 6spd or nothing for the R8. I own a GT4 and have driven an R8 v10 as I was looking to make the switch. At the end of the day I didn't do it. The motor of the R8 is its crown jewel but everything else is way more disconnected compared to the GT4. It's the intangibles that makes the GT4 what it is. If your looking for straight line speed and the exotic look go for the R8. If you care about a cars feel and how a car makes you feel go for the GT all day long. GT4 will be a much better canyon car as well. If it were R8 vs 911 it would be R8 all day long |

PCars are perennially not the fastest in their classes (save for maybe the Turbo S) amongst exotic badges in a straight-line. Their value is in the handling/suspension, motor qualities, driver positioning/seating, and fine fit/finish

Car and Driver tested the GT4 at 0-60 in 4.1s, and the GT3 in 3.0s. That's an epic difference. |

I would say that if you intend on tracking your car and doing a lot of "spirited" driving, the GT4 would be the choice, if you are looking to do some track work but yet want something that is going to get noticed, it's hard to beat the R8.

That said, my GT3 is the opposite. It is faster than I thought it would be and beyond my expectations in every way. |

Plus, I think your situation would have been different if you had gotten an allocation and not have gotten your GT3 so I think you're saying this in hindsight of the market at this point. I optioned one, and it was about $108k. thanks!

Quick is very subjective.......I would venture to guess that most GT4 owners didn't wait months to get one just to head to the local quarter mile track or race the WRX at the stop light on the way. If your user name holds true I'm sure you understand driving dynamics and the overall balance of a Porsche GT car. With the never ending horsepower wars, fast today is slow tomorrow. But great driving dynamics can't be beat with turbos and superchargers........Phil

Alas, I traded it for a Huracan and got on the waiting list for a GT2 because I wanted even more power. But the GT3 is absolutely nuts and by far the most fun car I've ever driven. |
