Because treed acres requires no upkeep and you can make trails and stuff for riding and what not through it. Plus it's beautiful to be surrounded by trees.
Cleared is just a lot of work and boring to be looking at wide open dull flat space of land. And also to do a little target shooting! |

According to my tree survey, i have 117 trees on my lot and part of the lot is under water. Sadly, no hills.

Acreage is fine, but maintenance/upkeep for acreage in a typical yard setting is a NIGHTMARE. Ideally - horses and other farm animals accompany land of any size. I have 5 acres and had a donkey and a couple goats to keep everything managed. My parents have about 15 acres and horses. We both keep the house fenced Ina small area and let the animals manage the bulk of the property. |

No, the rush of people moving in to be near Master Rick drove real estate values too high for me!
We're actually in Arden, just south of Ashville....

I have often lost track over the years and have this distinct feeling that peasants have built upon it. I simply do not have the time nor resources to have them expelled, as most of the time I am dealing with matters of great consequence

My city spot is 1/3 acre, but big enough to have chickens/turkeys in the back.
I am tertiary (to my parents) on the family trust that includes 20 acres in Montana that abuts BLM forest and includes a river, as well as 2 acres in the southern sierras near Lake Isabella. When I retire, I want some partially wooded acres with alpacas and some chivos. |

The main piece of family land is 10+ acres in the city on which my parents home is built. As someone stated earlier, relatives either die or we buy them out and it is now worth a high 7-figure sum of money. Similar tracts in the area have been turned into neighborhoods with zero line lot houses at $350K+. My dream is 5 acres in the city with a warehouse-garage for the cars complete with lifts and full tools. Ah well.

Our lot was originally a full acre, but the east end of the lot abuts a farm road and has 90ft of grass between the road and the trees. The woman who had the house built was worried that the grass strip may have ended up being a dumping area and she didn't want the responsibility for it, so she had the plot redrawn so she only owned to the edge of the treeline. The guy who owned all the land before selling off the plots retained ownership of the 90ft strip of grass. Then we bought the house 8 years later. About a year after we bought it, the guy plunked a garage/storage building on the strip of grass without talking to us about it first. I would have paid for the land just to keep it clear, since that garage is now visible from our house most of the year. Too late now to do anything about it. So we own like .92 acres or thereabouts.

1.5 acres but the vast majority of it is untouched land that I have no interest in maintaining or developing further. It's total wilderness. My wife wants to clear away some of the trees and build an outdoor tennis/basketball court but I think it's a colossal waste of money and I'm having none of it. If either of my children were avid tennis players then I'd be on board, but that's not the case. My wife certainly doesn't play. It'd function more as a status symbol for when she has guests over which is one of the worst reasons to waste money on anything.
Bear in mind we are in Texas so acreage is not quite as expensive as you'd find on the two coasts. Last edited by Benedict1957; 07-14-2016 at 12:25 PM.. |

kscarrol - I was back in town for the last Asheville C&C....I should have reached out to you! I came back to make sure Master Rick's peep's stayed out of my house in Maggie Valley ( ) and brought the E93 M with me. One of my former co-workers bought a RC-F and we hung out together...

Just a general question, why do folks post highly personal info on the web for strangers to see, down to the exact location of where said land might be located? Kinda of like say you have a YouTube channel, why do some actually show where they work and where they live? Aren't there like all kinds of weird a** stalkers and psychos on the internet?
