This thing is gawdly beautiful. Reminds me of the Aston Vulcan. And I'm loving the throwback tail lights and the head light outline imitating closed flip up lights.

What's with the outrageously long hood? Won't touch a rotary with a pole, where are all the rx8 gone, yeah.

Actually, that's not the case. Believe it or not, that distinction likely goes to the first-gen 240/260/280Z. Precisely because of that long hood and huge engine bay, folks LOVED to cram small-block Chevy and Ford engines into 'em. It was an easy swap, as engine swaps go.

Yeah, a Wankel is also dirt cheap, so replacing them was never a problem. Seems like more Miatas ended up with V8's than RX7's.

And hopefully they never build another shitty rotary. FD was such a great car plagued by such an awful sounding, very unreliable, torqueless POS rotary. 50k miles = time for a rebuild. Don't forget to add oil (or do a pre-mix...because it might as well be a two stroke).

I'd venture to say for any car made post 1980, the RX7 has by far the highest percentage of motor swaps to a different manufacturer (mostly GM and Ford V8's) than any other car made.
Also: Read this thread, NitrousB. Rotary engines burn oil by design, are far from unreliable, and are easy to work on because of the dearth of moving parts. And I'd argue that the Wankel design lends itself to turbocharging better than almost any normal four-stroke motor precisely because it doesn't generate torque in the same manner, or in comparable quantity. In fact, I'd argue that for track driving, a rotary's torque curve and throttle behavior is preferable to a normal tuned motor -- yet another reason older RXs are popular as weekend track machines.
