For the price of a M4 or RS5, they are both really lacking in horsepower. Almost to an embarrassing level to be honest. 425HP isn't exactly impressive in 2015. Actually, at that price it wasn't impressive several years ago either...

425 is the claimed figure. It's closer to 460-470. Regardless the HP number, the car is indeed fast trapping almost 120 with DCT. The E9x M3 trapped around 114 with "11" less HP.

I cannot remember exactly. Regardless, I think the car is just beautiful in that color and in black window trim, that chrome trim is not matching anything. Anybody know how these sell at dealers? Are they in high demand and how is the used market?

Actually the e9x m3 was more like 112 mph on avg. The f8x is around 118 on avg.
The f8X is making about as much wheel hp as it is claimed to make crank. Dinan put it on an engine dyne and made 484 hp, consistent with 420 whp and 15% drivetrain loss.

M4 does 0-60 in roughly 4 seconds and 1/4 mile mid 12's. If interested in this car and worried about acceleration numbers, I would compare it to other cars and see their acceleration results.

Once you see the results for all tests, why does the hp figure matter? The M4 seems to be competitive on acceleration. Unless you are going to look at both graphs of torque and hp and compare them I also don't see just the maximum number mattering that much.

I also think the 5-60 mph time is more revealing as it cuts out many of the advantages of launch control and probably more how the average person will drive it. The odds of me pulling up to a stop light and using launch control are very small and unless at a drag strip (which I have never driven at) I am not sure when I would use it. I have never seen it used at a road course either.

RS5 is good looking, just a bit long in the tooth at this point. Given the update to the new A4 I wouldn't expect the A/s/RS5 to change too drastically in the looks department.

The RS5 looks and sounds the part. People today want supercar straight line speed and the RS5 doesn't have it. I loved the one I drove but I love my M3 more. To make the New RS shine Audi needs to put the old R8 V10 and AWD system in it and boom game changer with old tech. I would buy that car in a second.

From limited press details here, looks like a 2017 launch for RS4 & RS5.

The new RS3 has recently launched over here, a rather nice hatch.

The stats are rather good as well.

i am always staggered at how people think 425hp is 'lacking'....really. get a grip.

also the whole car isn't about only HP. that's like saying you eat a burger for the quality of the bun. there are many, many features which go into the motoring experience of a particular car; HP is merely one component.

425hp is GREAT. What's maybe not so great is how much of a colossal boat it is.

To me, the current Audi 5 has looked too much like a Camaro from the side. They are great driver's cars, though. My daughter had two Audis and I always enjoyed when she was grounded so I could drive it.

Don't know if this is still a thing, but the prototype 2017 RS5 TDI looks interesting....

HP is one significant component, and at that price point, 425HP is lacking. A M4 with no other option than leather seats (the cheapest leather seats offered) is a MSRP of over $66,000. Add a few must-have options and you are well over 70k. RS5's story is just as bad.

You should have some significant expectations at that price point when the other guy is doing more for less...

no...425hp in a Mustang is not the same as 425hp in an M4. if you think that's the same....time to switch brands.

This is true. At the same time, the M3 and M4 aren't making 425 hp, no matter what BMW 'claims'. That is true too for the majority of turbo cars. The M3 in reality is making ~480 hp. And so in that regard, it makes more sense to be trapping 118 mph.
