That should be the new aero package they will use this weekend, reminiscent to William's approach.
Seems they kept both wings (One similar to Ferrari, and the new one similar to Williams) in Austria.

Fernando Alonso given 20-place grid penalty for engine change
Fernando Alonso given 20-place grid penalty for engine change
http://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/...-engine-change Fernando Alonso will start the Austrian Grand Prix from the back of the grid and face an in-race penalty after an engine change earned him a 20-place grid demotion. Alonso spoke of the possibility of engine penalties on Thursday and on Friday McLaren confirmed it had moved onto the Spaniard's fifth internal combustion engine (ICE), turbocharger and MGU-H. The first fifth component used means a 10-place penalty, before a five-place penalty for any additional fifth element subsequently used. McLaren also changed Alonso's MGU-K, but as it is his third component of the season it did not incur any additional demotion. The hefty penalty is guaranteed to carry over into the race regardless of where the Spaniard qualifies and will be converted on how many grid places are left to serve: 1-5 places: 5s penalty 6-10 places: 10s penalty 11+ places: Drive-through penalty One shred of comfort for Alonso will be the fact he is running McLaren updates this weekend - a new, shorter nose (set to be run for the first time in FP2), revised wings, new floor and bodywork tweaks. He gets the new parts in Spielberg as McLaren alternate upgrades between himself and Jenson Button at each race weekend.

The engine penalties are getting ridiculous, both RBR and Alonso are hit with massive penalties by exceeding power unit allocations.
And we are just barely halfway through the season. This really messed up F1 somehow.

That new McLaren nose is horrible looking compared to the older one! Guess we'll see if function > form.
The engine regulations are really stupid and are really starting to take their toll. This year seems to be worse than last year too. |

Bold qualifying session today. The drivers braved torrential rain and gale-force winds. They even had to deal with a "drying track" towards the end of the session
What a joke this series has become

Worst race so far this season. Only exceptions were Massa/Vettel towards the end and Verstappen and CRASH-donado with his drifting on the main straight.
Both Mercs looked like they were just pacing each other.

I didn't get the chance to watch it, but I was reading the live commentary and definitely didn't feel like that I missed anything.

It is time for the old fart NBC announcers to shut up about Ferrari this and that. They are NOT touching Mercedes this year. Of any of the tracks Mercedes should have be vulnerable, it would have been Austria. Quit talking about how Ferrari is easier on their tires, their engine upgrades are going to bring the fight...blah...blah...blah. It is done and has been since the season started. Deal with it Maranello.

Any definitive word on what happened to Kimi?
An otherwise boring race. Wonder what Honda intends to do with the McLaren mess?
