As far as wooden fences go, this one is damn nice.

I like brick walls best for sturdiness, privacy, etc... But wooden fences, your style in particular, look far better in my opinion.

So as some of you may know, we (Texas) has experienced "record setting" rainfall which just recently ceased as of a week ago. Prior to that we got basically a month of non-stop torrential down pours. The total for my area was something like nearly 2ft over that 30 day span!
Which began only a few days after installing our fence. As a rule of thumb, you want to wait @ a week of dry weather prior to staining to completely allow the wood to dry out so it will soak in that stain (oils, color and chemical). So once the rain finally stopped, it quickly went from Seattle to Sahara! After one week of blazing sun, my guys came by today and spent 3hrs staining with a 2-pass method on both sides. I initially was gonna go a tad lighter, but after looking at photos during that time and the color of our bricks and custom shingled roof (browns and bronzes) I decided to go darker. VERY pleased with the results!!!

Thanks guys! It really gives our home and entirely different "presence"!
I was actually fearful it would lose some it's 'character': knots, variations, rings, etc. But actually the stain magnifies the beauty and variances of the wood!

Similar related topic:Fences
I am planning to buy a cheap harbor Freight pressure washer and clean the deck. Then there is a HOA fence stainers who does staining all around the fences (inside and out) for $300.
Stain cost will be higher than $300. WILL UPDATE within 3-4mo. Video of 1600psi washer Staining.

Follow up @ 16 months later and we are still lovin our Fence! It is taking this blistering Texas Sun very well. I've had a chance to add some decorations to it.
I also installed some solar motion lights which I will snap a pic at night and post up. They are really cool and give some nice lighting to the back yard at night.

I became famous after that thread...the skunk is still hanging around..but now I have a mouse that ran in the house and is sneaking all over the place. Not as entertaining but if it elevates to something good I will start a thread as OT has been slow lately.

Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it, And spills the upper boulders in the sun; And makes gaps even two can pass abreast. The work of hunters is another thing: I have come after them and made repair Where they have left not one stone on a stone, But they would have the rabbit out of hiding, To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean, No one has seen them made or heard them made, But at spring mending-time we find them there. I let my neighbor know beyond the hill; And on a day we meet to walk the line And set the wall between us once again. We keep the wall between us as we go. To each the boulders that have fallen to each. And some are loaves and some so nearly balls We have to use a spell to make them balance: ‘Stay where you are until our backs are turned!' We wear our fingers rough with handling them. Oh, just another kind of outdoor game, One on a side. It comes to little more: There where it is we do not need the wall: He is all pine and I am apple orchard. My apple trees will never get across And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him. He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.' Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder If I could put a notion in his head: 'Why do they make good neighbors? Isn’t it Where there are cows? But here there are no cows. Before I built a wall I’d ask to know What I was walling in or walling out, And to whom I was like to give offense. Something there is that doesn’t love a wall, That wants it down.' I could say ‘Elves’ to him, But it’s not elves exactly, and I’d rather He said it for himself. I see him there Bringing a stone grasped firmly by the top In each hand, like an old-stone savage armed. He moves in darkness as it seems to me, Not of woods only and the shade of trees. He will not go behind his father’s saying, And he likes having thought of it so well He says again, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.' |
