Ask them to let you check inside the tube avoiding stuff like this happens to you.

My doc referred them, I'll pull up there details and post,
didn't know I had a choice, but there not a hospital

Second, please go to good quality facility. Large hospital, etc. Not some shady bargain basement imaging center. Sure it will cost you less but the images will suck and it isn't worth the savings. There is a HUGE spectrum of MRI quality. I would look for at least a 1.5 tesla magnet, 3T even better. Forget open magnets unless you don't fit in the standard tube or are severely claustrophobic.

Had an MRI for my lower back about a month ago. Table had nice contoured cushions and they gave me headphones with my choice of radio station piped in. After I lay down, tech opens this cabinet with a stack of blankets inside. Turns out it's a heater and it was like putting on a shirt that just came out of the dryer. Needless to say, got through the 30 minutes pretty easily.

OP, your referring physician can give you a prescription for an anxiety pill to take during the exam. It's also sedating so you will fall asleep. No contrast injections necessary for back scans as they're only looking for usual stuff such as herniated disc and therefore won't be needing contrast. Good luck.

Had my MRI today,
they had a drip in me, shot me full of some woozy juice so I was partially knocked out,
hooked me up to what looked like an ECG, had a nurse in the room
the full 9, I heard somone saying in the background

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man."

LOLZ

piece of cake, in and out in 15 mins, wasn't as loud or claustrophobic
though it was agony trying not to itch my bloody nose.

I'm going to request the results as well (6 bucks charge)

let you know how it goies

txs all anyway

Had a scan of my head done. Dye was used, no biggie. I'm not claustrophobic, so it was a breeze. I was told to not nap because you might move in your sleep, but I couldn't help it. I drifted into la la land a few times. It was actually very relaxing with the ear plugs on and the hum.

Has anyone else "seen" the MRI with their eyes closed? I just had one of my head recently and I swear when I had my eyes closed and the MRI would go off the "stuff" you see with your eyes closed would move in a certain pattern. One was like a fading circular pattern and another was like expanding and collapsing circle. When the machine would stop the patterns would go away. Anyone else experience this?

I've had many MRIs. When they were of my head or chest areas I had the same sensations. I really dislike MRIs because of the noise and commotion.

So the MRI showed a result.

I'm not imagining things nor am I a malingerer

my L2-L3 shows "mild right paracentral disc herniation"
I suspect with my first car accident.

So much for years of people telling me I'm essentially a fat bstard and need to loose weight, walk more yada yada yada , only took 30 years to get a correct diagnosis !

mind you I had seen specialists's in the UK, but they all stopped at x-rays
even my current quack wanted to know the reason I was requesting an MRI.

Going to pass the info onto my chiro, so now maybe I can get a plan on the actual problem and not perceived problems

They told ya to do more yada yada yada?
Not entirely sure whats that phrase means to you, but onto this side of the ocean its very clear

Aside on this: Had altogether 4 MRI, 3x shoulders and 1x L7 area. Only thing to mention was the very loud grumbling of the machines around me, but for that I got ear protection on.
