weight will be about the same..... you can thank existing battery tech for the bloat. That said, the i4 hides the weight well, even though she's a big girl.

Hard to say. It all depends on when the last G30 rolls off the floor. As I’d imagine there will need to be some tweaks made to retool the plant for the G60.

But I ordered my G30 in August and took delivery in October. It wasn’t a new platform so there can be availability issues that make them want to announce the date dealerships will have them in stock and not the day they start manufacturing. There were no cars of my MY G30 in the dealerships in my area when I took delivery. They started arriving in late October.

It's not just that, it's packaging it in a platform that's designed for an ICE. The Model S Plaid is a way bigger car than the i4, has an extra motor, and still weighs less.

What’s the source of your info and timeline? Seems all made up to me, none of it aligns.

Factory needs roughly a month to switch from gen 7 to gen 8 production line. Production seems delayed, or at least it won’t be full capacity starting July if the MY reveal is in October.

If we were to go by your timeline, early august there will be 100s of G30 at ports, social media will be filled with leaked fotos making Oliver Zipse look stupid in October reveal.

Unless this is 1999- don’t expect it. Somehow in the 90’s we had everything we asked for in the car world…

I'm looking to replace my 2018 530e, so this timeline seems good. I had a 2012 528i. I've never bought off a dealer's lot, I just order what I want from them and have it built and shipped, usually a 2-3 month wait but I get exactly what I want. If production starts in July, I'll begin checking with local dealers here in northern California for the best price and then order in mid September - based on my last two cars, I'd estimate a late November or early December delivery.

To me this is the easiest way to buy a new BMW. I remember asking the dealer back in 2011 when I first did it, was there an extra charge and she said no. Pointed out that in Europe ordering is more common as dealers don't have big car lots with unsold cars sitting around.

There's no "extra charge" but from my experience you get a better deal from purchasing off the lot as opposed to ordering. Maybe 50-100 a month difference in a lease. This isn't always the case though, still probably worth it to order.

The Angel Eye halos were such a BMW signature look. With every single new car having their own different LED DRL “shape”, it’s impossible to tell a BMW from anything else on the road now unless you know specifically what you’re looking at.

Sad… a real watering down of the brand image. 99% of people would have no idea the new 7 is a BMW by seeing it drive by, and it’s supposed to be the brand flagship. The 5 may not end up much different.

If you are not picky on options or colors, it may work out or give you additional 1-2% advantage in discount.

In my experience that’s quickly wiped out by the added options that you won’t need but have to absorb because that’s how the car was built and is sitting on the lot.

Even when leasing, an extra $2k on packages and options that I don’t technically need adds to the cost or is wiped out by the extra dealer ‘discount’. One may get lucky ofcourse to find the exact car and compromise a bit on color combo, easier with 3er and Xers, not impossible with 5ers.

For the poster in NorCal (maybe Bay Area?) most people may want cars right away, a car on the lot actually doesn’t get you that much discount if there is a line of 4 buyers behind you.

I totally agree. We lament a style and feel that made us love the brand. My current x5 W/ laser lights might be the last new bmw I own with those iconic Angel Eyes.

Maybe bmw will learn the hard way like Porsche did on the 996 gen- maybe a dip in sales and online disappointment will speak loudly.

Something tells me though… no one is hearing us…

Kia designers need to resign and go back to making their own cars look pretty, need some fresh design talent stepping in.

Merc has not faired well either maintaining headlight designs, though some vehicles look quite well packaged/consistent design language on a single car, front to back.

Yes, you are right on all counts. I've always driven too many miles a year to lease (60 mile roundtrip work commute four days a week post Covid). I also wanted a specific color exterior for my 530e - Atlas Cedar Metallic and Cognac Dakota leather. Never saw on a lot or when I take in in for service here in the Bay Area, and very few on the road like it.

My tactic for both cars was to give them several months of being sold so data was available to TrueCar, BB, Edmonds and then researching on these sites to see what the local prices are for similar builds that I'm thinking about. Then reaching out to 6 or 7 Bay Area dealers via email for a quote on the exact build to compare. No haggling, no pressure. Both times I've eventually settled on a dealer with a price on the very low end of reported local sales for the identical car. First time I visit the dealer is when I'm there to pick up my new car that BMW built to my specific color/options.
