Thanks for asking the questions RichardInCA. I have also never used BimmerUtility but would consider it depending on others' first-time experience with it on the forum. Please do share your experience (as a first-time user) if you try it.

Thanks Skyking - since I just missed the OTA update, I’ll probably wait until the next one rolls around. I’m curious if there are any issues around lease returns if one disabled 5AP….maybe I’ll end up being the guinea pig ;-)

This was a first for me, too. It was very simple—unchecking that box and hitting save. That’s it.

You can always turn it back on later if need be.

I presume at some point (hopefully soon) BMW will enable this view ConnectedDrive store purchase once the feds get their act together and this will become a moot topic.

The functionality of the headlights once unhobbled is not only very cool, but far superior.

To answer my own question it’s a case of me looking at the wrong spot 😂 apparently BMW didn’t move it for RHD variants.

Yes I believe it is disabled only for the US market.

Is there any way to force an OTA update, after removing the code?

Thanks.

Just ordered an ENET adapter - looks like that should also work with bimmerflow to get battery diagnostics.

I have an OBDLink MX+ which works, but an ENET adapter should be faster as it can be a little slow to read, and I think it’s the Bluetooth that causes that

This was for BimmerFlow, in BimmerCode there are very few things you can code, and I don’t believe you can do VO coding without an enet adapter

You make the change and then you have to wait until the next OTA update.

I had an update at the dealer to address an issue and it did not work after that. It did, however, after the OTA.

Credit again to Cabo for originally advising on this.
Did you buy just the adapter or do you need to buy a license too?

Paprmkr - I see you are attentive to what I have to say. I appreciate that. That's how I feel when it comes to gluing things on to the car; enabling a feature that is built into the vehicle and should be functional for the US market, save the slow pace of the NHTSA, is entirely different.

I’m pretty sure you need to buy a license otherwise I’m not sure how you’d use bimmerutility? I haven’t tried this yet. I’ve just used the adapter with BimmerFlow to spy on battery health and metrics.

I bought the adapter and you need to purchase the Bimmer Utility license as well.

I've ordered 550e for US delivery and I noticed the 5AP on the build order. From what I gathered from reading recent posts on this thread it might be possibly to removing the 5AP allowing the activation of anti-dazzle using BimmerUtility and BimmerCode. Can anyone help confirm this for me. Also wondering if protools can? Doesn't seem like it from earlier posts on this thread. I really would like this feature. I've never done anything remotely like this before with any BMW I have owned, but I'm willing to try if I have good direction and an Elmer to lean on for questions and help.

Just to give you backround on this, this trying to code on the matrix headlights has been around for 10 years or more as I read about it with my F10’s. Some had coded it back on, but there were reports that it didn’t work correctly and drivers flashed them. Only one person I ever read about actually tried driving tests with a partner in an oncoming car. The general consensus at that time was that the hardware was different for the US market and this feature never really functioned as designed in the US. I recall something about retrofitting Euro lights, I don’t recall how that ended up.

I’m not saying you can’t get it to work, but I know that other cars like current Porsches don’t equip the real matrix headlights for the US because of the antiquated regulations. Hence you might code something, but whether it works properly on USA models is something you really need to evaluate.

Purely on the topic of G30 in this context...

I had Anti Dazzle High Beams option and Variable Light Distribution coded on my two G30s, pre and post LCI. I have been driving with these two ON for nearly 7 years in my old G30s. They worked perfectly fine. Nobody flashed me back. This is to say, as long as you had the right options installed with the right hardware (which was 100% available in the US market) all you had to do was enable the feature via coding.

Now, G60 appears to be a completely different animal from the coding perspective. However, it's been reported here that once 5AP is gone hardware performs as expected.

In short, it's worth trying in the G60.

That sounds promising, I think . I guess I will continue to wait to hear from someone with a G60 on being successful.

I emailed BimmerGeek from ProTools and he responded "Being an 8.5 iDrive we can't code that car to activate it. It would need to be removed from the vehicle order and then go into the dealership for them to update the car." -I guess that means ProTools can't do it.

I emailed BimmerTech and they responded with "Unfortunately the latest models use “secure coding” and will never be codable with third-party software most likely." - I guess that means they can't do it. Yet.

I am waiting on responses from BimmerUtilities and BimmerCode.

If anyone else has information of success with G60 please share your story.

MiGs - It works.

If 5AP is removed from the VO, the next OTA update will enable anti-dazzle.

It can be done with BimmerUtility, but not BimmerCode.

Update at dealer did not enable it, for some reason, but subsequent OTA update did.

Another question here and I don't know if I'm asking the right question. I've read about FDL or FDL coding surrounding this topic. If I'm only removing the 5AP from the VO does that handle any FDL coding or does the next OTA handle that part after seeing the newly modified VO? ugh I hope I'm making sense.
