And yes. The Glenmorangie I have is doable, as I already stated.

There is no secret of my preference for Rums. Which should tell you all you need to know about my palate. With Cognac running a close second.
You're the one that said "of all spirits one can drink..." and also said most scotch is smokey. I was just pointing out those broad statements were not correct.

Picked up a bottle of Suntory Toki over the weekend. Forgot to grab a pic. Had a few glasses Friday night, and about polished it off yesterday during our fantasy football draft. Real smooth and doesn't have a ton of bite. Which was nice for how we were drinking it. Definitely happy with it for the $35 price tag!

rented a lake house with some friends for the long weekend and kicked it off nicely...

my buddy brought this, but as an avid bourbon drinker, i had not heard of it. i was not aware of it's rarity or secondary market price. it's a really nice sipper, but not worth anywhere near $500!!!

I. Do. Not. Like. Scotch.
You should tell him this, and ask him to trial you with something else - I bet he also has Irish or bourbon (or tell him you want to try something as different from the last one as possible). Anybody who is really into Scotch knows it isn't something everyone loves, and that there is tremendous range in the flavors. Some of my favorites are so offputting to most that, during prohibition, they were sometimes imported as 'medical disinfectant' because the customs guys couldn't imagine anybody drinking it (e.g. Laphroaig).

Whisk(e)y is hardly ever worth secondary price. I have a few "expensive" bottles as well that I either got lucky to find or won through a raffle. Worth the MSRP but definitely not anywhere close to secondary price.

Thumbs up

Learned about this from a Tequila expert from Mexico.

After an extensive search, I located the last few bottles @ 30 miles away. Extremely smooth and one of the best Tequilas I have ever tasted!

Scotch definitely is not the liquor that changes "the most" with water or ice, a lot of American whiskeys open up just as much if not more.
Could you suggest some of these (bourbons or Americans that open up well)? I don't have a lot of experience w/ bourbon/rye, but mostly when I water them like I would a single malt they just seem to dilute, rather than opening up more. Current fav's in this area are EHTaylor small batch, and the cask strengths from Wild Turkey and Knob Creek.

Last night at BILIL he was making a goose martini but I HATE dirt. So I told him make mine godfather. He mixed the goose with dis, and it was ok

I did a little research and tonight it's Hibiki 12, dis, and contreua. OBVIOUSLY after 2 I can't spell no more

And I bent the glass

If adding water you mainly want to shoot for the cask strength stuff, anything under 100 proof just doesn't open as much imo.

A few off the top of my head would be Elijah Craig barrel proof (the c19 and A20 were both solid), sagamore rye CS, Jack Daniels BP, stagg jr to name a few I like a few drops of water in.

Some you don't really gain much like OF 1920, OGD114, Makers mark CS, MM private selects (the ones I've tried), and store picks are hit and miss.

Do we even want to know what it was? :|

My dad, for some reason, decided the top shelf was a good place to get a rum to mix with egg nog last winter and poured in a specialty finish Four Square that you can't even buy anymore It's a horrible feeling, made worse when they tell you "at least it tasted good"

Preach! When she gave me the same line it took a fair amount of restraint but of course, the right woman could also be considered irreplaceable

It was another offering from Whistle Pig, which was a small batch item that is also no longer available. Oh well...
