Been wearing my U1 on the bracelet all week...
How heavy is this watch? I'm looking for my first diver right now but I don't want something especially heavy, particularly for the summer. I intend to wear this watch to the beach, will be swimming in it, etc. I'm okay with it's size, as my everyday watch is a 44mm (49mm lug to lug) x 15mm. To keep weight down, I'd probably go with a rubber strap.

It's heavy, but you only feel it on the bracelet. The rubber is very thick and wide (24mm lugs), and the deployment is large so it feels much lighter on rubber.

Looks like its 180g on rubber and 225g on the bracelet. So yeah, definitely heavy for its size. For reference, a Breitling Super Avenger is about 150g, and its a much bigger watch.

If you want light, comfortable and good for the summer, put it on a NATO strap.

+1. And if you don't want to have to worry about it all the time, instead of getting something 'spensive like a PO just get a Seiko SKX-007/009. It's a really nice-looking watch with its own heritage, a respectable automatic movement, and I keep trying new watches but for daily wear I keep coming back to my 009 on NATO. Now it's way to casual for dress clothes but I'm not that kind of guy so it fits me fine. For dress-up I have a 50's Longines... the rest I probably wouldn't miss save for my Vostok Scuba Dude and my Marathon GSAR.

OK, I lied. I'd miss all of them. But those four are the ones I wear 99.44% of the time.

Of course, while the U1 is heavy, you never have to go hunting around for a hammer while you're wearing it. Or a bludgeoning tool. They're like a tank!

I let one get away when I got a PO, but really want to bring another U1 back home.

The U1 rules! And to be honest, it's doesn't feel heavy on the wrist at all, especially in the rubber strap. It's just brilliant.

Absolutely agree, the different case is really great and the lack of the geriatric date magnifier really helps too. I had a GMT, I don't dislike Rolex, but I also think their volume makes them much less interesting than some of the more boutique manufacturers. Having said that, I do really like the Milgauss and hope to see them continue to venture into the direction of more unique pieces.

^ the jubilee bracelet is a little shinier, and rolex polishes it so well it'd take a few good looks to know it isn't white gold.

After getting into fine watches, I now know there's many watches nicer or better than Rolex, but for me it gets into a funny area where I want to wear a nice watch, but I don't want to have to worry too much about scratching or damaging and ruining it's worth. Rolex has great resale value (my Sub went up in value the year I owned it by $6-700), I don't mind the recognition, and at under $10K I can live with daily wearing without worrying about damaging something that's worth more than most nice used cars.

There's a bunch of other watches I'd like to own, but I still love my first watch (Submariner) and looking forward to getting my Sea Dweller. I think the SD will wear better on my wrist, and I also like that it doesn't have the cyclops magnifier. Being discontinued, I bet the Sea Dweller does nothing but go up in value as well. Money in the bank.

Overall, ihave to say, I don't like rolex's on my wrist, I just don't think they look good. However, I do respect them as a brand and think they have smart branding.

I just feel my money is better spent on other brands for my personal taste.

As for the breitling avenger with diamonds, I think the diamond work on it is more fitting to the brand. I've seen lots of diamond encrusted rolex's over the years and always thought they looked like afterthoughts by the brand. As for the modified ones, I might be tempted to say, better then what Rolex does, but still not my cup of tea if I wanted a diamond watch. I'd probably go for the modded breitling first, it just seems to flow better. (Mostly because I'm just not a Rolex fan)

Yep, it will get even better once some of the larger watch threads are moved here as well. There were several that have sort of died out/slowed down that have a lot of really good stuff for people looking to start collecting or just purchase a new watch.
