I wouldn't fault you for checking the app though! I checked it a few times when my car was left for tinting and ceramic coating. I even used the app to look at the remote cameras one night just to see where the car was kept. As it turns out, it was right where it should be overnight - in their closed garage in the detailing bay. When you're a new owner, you worry about your baby.

I about freaked when I saw they took out the front and back door windows to tint them. I thought they had opened the inside of the doors. But no. If the windows are halfway down, and you take off the trim on the outside, you can put a special tool down and unclipped the windows and lift them out.

I didn't even know there was a "valet mode," I guess I haven't gotten to V yet in the manual (and my "genius" appointment is next weekend as I didn't have time to go through all that on pickup day). I did leave him with the "credit card" key as my sales guy recommended. And yes, exterior camera view shows it parked inside the bay at the shop to cure...

I'm curious; why did your CA recommend that you leave your card key with the Genius guy?

Pronoun confusion, sorry about that - "him" is the detailer, not the Genius guy. My CA recommended using the card key when leaving the key with a valet, mechanic, whatever. Probably more for convenience than security.

Yah. It does, however allow them to squeegee better and make sure that bottom edge of the tint is attached correctly and doesn't curl up inside the door later from the heat and detach.

I'd like to get people's thoughts on this. We ordered our i5 last August, and got caught up in the delays. I called the Genius line in Nov, and they said start of production got delayed until third week of January. They said it would take 3-4 months from that point.

I've been monitoring My Garage, and the timeline there seems to match. I do have a VIN, but the status has been stuck at Step 3- "Production Begins- Today's the day: your BMW has entered the production queue."

I reached out to my BMW salesman today just to check in. He responded: "The car is scheduled to be finished with production on 1/16. Then we just have to wait for the shipping!"

Why do you think I am getting conflicting info? What is the most reliable source- Genius line, My Garage website, or my dealer?

If you have a VIN, you can Google "BMW Chrome trick" which will explain how to see the actual production date through myGarage.

Ok thanks! That Chrome trick shows a Production date of Jan 16, which matches what my dealer said. So it sounds like I'll have it sooner than expected!

I used Marine Traffic. If you're correct about that ship name, it left Belgium on 1/3 and is due in Galveston on 1/19.

I am correct about the name. On January 3rd it moved to in transit and the robot kept on saying that it is at the exit port without providing any further info. When I posted the ship name the automated robot just updated itself and gave me the vessel name.

I hope I will be able to take delivery of it before the end of the month.

I would not go down that rabbit hole of expecting early delivery. 99.999 times out of 100 the car will be delivered either the week they told you when your order was accepted and a build week assigned, or after due to delays.
I remember getting all excited once my car went to code 150, and then thinking it was going to be delivered early. Nope. A week late. And I had none of the delays other folks have had. Just a spat of bad weather that caved in the roof of the delivery center at the dealer.

Few pictures from delivery day from mine. Enjoying it so far, few little quibbles, could do with more storage in drivers area for sunglasses etc, the key is horrendous - you cant get a decent sized key ring onto it and have to use 2 smaller one's instead.
