Finally found a bottle of Maker's Mark RC6.
I've heard good things, and I love "wheater" bourbons, so I'm looking forward to cracking that one open. |

It is a definite pick up IMO, great offering. It has a little more sweetness than other MM offerings, I would 100% grab a second bottle if I found one.

Additionally, aside from a great comeback from KC last night, I also won a lottery and got one of my unicorns.

Last week, my Bride created an incredible marinade for our lamb medallions w/bone (appx 4 oz ea) and after finishing them on the bbq, we opened a bottle we laid down 8 yrs ago, a 2010 Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon that's Wine Advocates 97+ points....it was decanted for 2 hours....a slice of the lamb and a sip of the Leonetti....unreal.

I've had Highland Park 21 and it is some of the best scotch I've tasted... again not for the faint if heart as it is quite peaty.

I'm of the firm opinion that no booze is worth $600+/bottle.
There are SO MANY good whiskeys out there for $50 or less, I can't fathom the point other than as a "collection" at which point it becomes not about the contents of the bottle at all, really. The achievement is what matters. I sincerely hope Hawkeye got his bottle at MSRP, since he mentioned a raffle/lottery. We got our bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle at MSRP - $80. It is in no way worth the $350-400 it gets on the secondary market. In fact, I wouldn't pay $80 for it again. I'd rather have Old Weller Antique for less, or most of the Booker's releases at the same $80 price point. I think MSRP for the BTAC bottles are all sub-$150. Some states (like MI) have state minimum pricing. That 18yr Sazerac of Hawkeye's is $89.28 state min here, so is the BTAC Stagg, not sure about the others... |

Tasting notes, wow. I understand all the hype now. So much flavor, straight butterscotch bomb. This is pretty phenomenal.

Broke the handy (and a few other gems) out for some friends last night. The Ardbeg Dark Cove is easily one of my favorites, will be sad when that is gone.

The local shop that gets the most allocated bottles just set them out at random day/times, no announcement, no raffle. Just right place, right time. Last edited by hooligan_G01; 02-06-2020 at 09:16 AM.. |

I like the raffle as it gives everyone a fairly equal chance. In my whiskey group there are several sales people that spend a good time of their day just hitting up various stores and usually scoop up the good stuff while the rest of us poor saps are working.

Has anyone tried these new offerings from the house of Johnnie Walker:
Ghost & Rare will set you back $400 while the others are a modest $185 or so. |

I haven't tried the Ghost & Rare, but I have a regular bottle of JW Blue at home. It's good stuff. Got a bit of spice to it. Goes great with a full bodied cigar.
