Mine made it from dispatched from factory (190) on 10/21 and just made it to the port (193) 10/22.

Ugh it will be great if it makes in on the TORTUGAS(EF419-TOR) for the oct 26 voyage. 15 day voyage to Baltimore on Nov 10th. Fingers crossed.

Yeah. I'm surprised at how long it is taking. I orderd my car in June. If I am able to take delivery the first week in Nov it will be 5 months. Last time I custom ordered a BMW 325i (E36) was in 93. It took like 2 or 3 months from order to delivery. Still seemed like forever. It was also the second MY of a new refreshed 3 series.

Yeah I'm not quite sure how an auto manufacture can thrive and at most survive with such poor turn arounds lately.

My friend, it’s ironic you’ve had that thought on the matter, because so have I. First time I’ve felt like Putin’s madness has taken us to the brink.

If it’s this bad for a 5 series, I can’t even imagine the nonsense involved with ordering an M3. I do think you’re right though, ordering a year in advance seems to be the safest option. The totality of the experience will tell me if I intend to remain with BMW, or return to Audi.

Maybe that's what it is.. Maybe Germany in preparations of the looming WW3 has ordered BMW operations (and other manufactures) to start retooling some of the factories for war materials unbeknownst to us --slowing normal production down. BMW goes back making airplane engines and pots & pans.

I would love to find and have a pot and pan made by BMW post WW2. Anyone have something like this?

I'm also on the way to the port - no confirmation yet that it has arrived. Maybe I'm on the 10/26 ship as well??

Not sure about backlog at the port at this time.

I wondered about backlog at the port as well. I sure hope it makes it on the next voyage out of there to Baltimore on 10/26. There would be som hope of receiving the vehicle right before Thanksgiving.

Are the M3's made in Germany? Or are the made in Mexico like the rest of the 3 series is now?

The M3 is still made in Germany at the facility in Munich. Now I do believe all the other 3 variants are made in Mexico.

I briefly considered an M3, or M340iX as an option when I started thinking about getting a new car back in 2023. I also considered an Audi S4 or S5, But I didn't feel any of them were the right fit for me. They felt too....."I'm having a Mid-Life Crisis, And I wanna pretend I'm still in my 30's" to me.

My wife said I would look like someone who really wants a 5 series but couldn't afford, it so I settled for a 3 just so I could own a new Bimmer. She said, "You're just not that guy anymore. You used to be, back when you were in your 30's and 40's. But you're in your mid 50's now. You're a Grandfather, a professional, and we can afford it, so why even think about it? If you want a sports car, get one. if you want a grownup car that can be Sports-Like, and matches your personality, go for the 5 or the A6."

Then I thought about when I lived on the Oregon Coast like 10 or 12 years back or so, I had a neighbor who was in his late 60's who drove around in a Jet black 330i. He totally looked out of place and like was borrowing his visiting Son or Daughter's car to run to the store. That's the picture I got in my head.

It’s interesting that AiredaleDad and I struggled with the same dilemma. I already have a A5 Sportback and while I love the car, I think Audi’s excessively long time periods between generations and lack of technological advancement is what made me hop brands.

I went back and forth for months between the M340, M440 and 540. I kind of ruled out the M3 because while it’s impressive, I think the energy level and suspension would wear on my over time. And I thought, people would think I was silly for buying it at my age.

Ultimately decided, that the 5’er suited me as a guy journeying the 50’s, and would likely age well with me, if that makes sense. I didn’t really need a new car (the Audi has 36k) but I’ve always wanted a BMW.

My 4 year (and ongoing) journey with incurable bone marrow plasma cell cancer (multiple myeloma) made me question what I was waiting for? I’m stable right now, thankfully, but time and the passage of it has new meaning on this type of journey.

It’s really given me something to look forward to and it’s been great sharing the experience with other people around the globe.

I just wish the manufacturing process was more predictable and transparent.

This would be my dad bought his 911s as his retirement gift drove it everywhere rain, sun, fishing, to the hardware store...Sadly was totaled when he and my mom were rear-ended by suburban coming home from a movie.
