They styling is nice, it looks like a baby F10. Shame about the FWD architecture, though. This could have been a home run for BMW enthusiasts, but BMW has proven time and time again that the only business they really want is lease customers chasing the badge. I can't say I blame them, but I'm interested to see what happens in the future when their reputation has dried up.

If they bring this to the states they better bring the active and gran tourer as well. Fwd/xdrive hatch seems much more reasonable then a sedan counterpart. Was stoked hoping the active tourer would come to the USA but sadly it most likely won't :/

Seems to have the same problem as the A3, that is, why does the rear have to look so bulbous relative to the rest of the car? The front and side look sleek, then you get to the rear and it's got such a huge ass for a car it's size. But other than that, pretty good looking car.

Pushing the limit on this and really stepping out of their comfort zone.

By extension, I'm assuming that means the next gen M2 is going to be based on this FWD platform? Seems like a race to the bottom.. |

I don't hate the idea of a 1 series sedan. The three series at big as shit, and the new 1 series sedan will be what the e46 sedan was in size. And as stated will be a competitor to the German's entry level cars.
Going FWD however is pure bonkers. If they commit that treason they've thrown the brand under and completely ruined the core principles of BMW. sigh P.S i don't know wtf they killed the 1 series here anyways.

I'm sure the prototype 1-Series is bigger than, say, the E36 3-Series.

Meh. The CLA is crap with the exception of the AMG version, which still feels cheap everywhere. Benz doesn't know how to make cheap cars because they don't have BMW's equivalent of Mini or Audi's equivalent of VW to base their cars on.
As for the 1 series, why not just make a 2 series GC and call it a day? |

I can understand if you like the idea of this vehicle, and I am not trying to change your opinion on it, but you should know that the AWD you get here, in a UKL car is not AWD. It feels more like FWD than AWD, basically it feels like FWD only, which it mostly is. Dont expect it to drive like a RWD-based xDrive, because it wont. If that isn't such a big deal, I would agreet that the car is great.

Its headlights look larger than the Sedan Concept shown at the Guangzhou auto show.
I like the shape of the car so far. I might even get this in the future. The ULK is a great platform, so I'm not worried how this will drive. What I'd be worried about is if they don't bring a smaller CLAR coupe to sit underneath the future 4-series. I know there are a lot of conflicting reports about that. I'll feel better when they finally show a small RWD coupe test mule in the future. |
