After reading the above article, it would be great to know who makes the xdrive for this sedan. If they plan to use the GKN Twinster version that is availabe on the Mini Countryman, maybe we can expect similar dynamics as the new Focus RS with "drift mode." However, I really hope BMW offers the M version of this in rear wheel configuration though highly doubt it's possible now.

As of this moment there are no plans for an M version of the F52 neither is their plans for an M Performance model at this moment.
However with the X1 receiving an M Performance model it is not unreasonable to imagine similar in the sedan but with the exception it will be offered in xDrive only.

In a recent post you said that this platform could also be rwd because the M department wanted to do the next M2. What is the status with that? |

The decision is ongoing. The incoming CEO has other ideas which the company are investigating.

It's starting price is 9575$. And It is not the only option. There are same sized kias and hundais.

At this point, I don't care what drivetrain this car has. If this drives like a MINI but with a BMW shell that's all I would really care about because I would know that it would still be fun to drive while providing a few bells and whistles.

BMW needs such a vehicle like the F52 to compete in the compact sedan market. Its a very appealing car and such a viable and accessible entry to a BMW.

Scott, is this chassis shared with any of the MINIs? If so, current or upcoming?

If it's like the 3-series, I fear we'll see only the FWD/base engine config available with manual transmission. Bigger engine/AWD -- Steptronic only?? |

So the X1 will be offered with a 6-cylinder engine in Europe? Currently the engine lineup tops at the 28i in Belgium. |

How is this translated to the next 1 series? For the Active Tourer/Gran Tourer I understand the fwd decision, but is it not that rwd makes the current 1 series unique? |

Yes its core rivals the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA will be older when the car comes to the market. Its an interesting car , the rear legroom is very good due to thinner front seat backs and in higher class specifications it can be a purposeful luxury car and it will offer many features that will be introduced in upcoming models such as the passenger display.

RWD small M car is the halo for BMW, the rest of the rep is built and rides on this. More fool BMW if they forget this. I don't own an M but I would be skeptical about buying another Bimmer next if they dilute the small car range too much from the 50:50 RWD config, especially by inflating the size every generation. If I want FWD I'll buy a golf GTi thanks. |
