I jinxed myself Just when I said to ppl that our winter's been mild thus far, we immediately get about 25cms of the white stuff. Arggh... I am truly the 'opposite man' as my better half puts it lol.

What a mess...! Only our lab tech and myself managed to get to work this morning. I'm closing shop as I write this. I started to walk to work since it's only 2km but I got a ride with a snow plow contractor.

Getting ready for sub zero temps here, there's snow north and south of us but none predicted here and it's clear and dry so keeping my fingers crossed.

While it looks like our multi-week rain event is largely winding down, it sure went out with a bang last night. Woke at 2 AM to horrendous winds and sheets of rain. Rain banging on the windows; no idea how my wife didn't wake up. Backyard half covered in ankle-deep water as the french drain couldn't keep up. I looked at Wunderground and the center of the low was almost directly overhead. An hour later after the front had moved through, dead calm.

This morning on the way to work I passed Lexington Reservoir outside of Los Gatos. It's gone from 41% to 102% full, rising 34 feet, in a month. Impressive.

^ Yeah, NICE! And we sure need it! Glad to have it as long as it doesn't wash any more people away. Sadly, 19 have died so far as a result of California storms.

From the web:

"At least 19 people have died as a result of the storms. Two more are pummeling the state this weekend. “This isn't over; we must remain vigilant. Stay safe, make the necessary preparations, and limit non-essential travel,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement."

10 inches of rain since last Sunday. I was preparing to build an ark, but I don't know what a cubit is.

cu·bit

"an ancient measure of length, approximately equal to the length of a forearm. It was typically about 18 inches or 44 cm, though there was a long cubit of about 21 inches or 52 cm."

Windy AF here today
Emptied all the standing water from various pots
Bought some new planters and made sure to drill holes in the bottom. Not sure the ginger will survive after floating to top
Put some potatoes and asparagus in the ground today, then sprinkled snail pellets all over

Oddest winter ever here at 1300 ft elevation above Salem, Oregon, in the foothills of the Cascade Mtns. Total snow so far this winter about 1/4 inch. We did have some cold temps (low 20s F) earlier in the season but now it seems to be stuck well above freezing. One day last week it hit 63F! For the past week or so we've been getting lots of rain -- leftovers from California's "bomb cyclone" or "atmospheric river." I think British Columbia is getting the rain even worse.

I do think the mountains are getting their snow pack, though, which bodes well for the summer -- gotta keep those rivers flowing.

Dry and sunny. Was a little worried in all this rain that we might lose a pine tree that my daughter and I planted some 30 years ago. The tree's about 50 ft tall now and means a lot to me.

64° F, sunny, and the air is fairly dry. It's awfully nice for mid-January and a full 25° above the normal for the date.

Raining, cloudy, gloomy and freezing. Today was the first glimpse of sun we've had in nearly two weeks. Idk why I moved here.

Okay, I got the cubit down, but then I discovered that the two hippos I planned to put in the ark are both male.

On the way to work, freezing rain while a few degrees below 0°C (32°F).

Now a few degrees above, so the snow is melting. Since last Friday we went from 12" of fluffy snow to 4" of compact.

They are now forecasting 5" by Friday night, hopefully they will be right.
