The Merc unfortunately still looks like it needs some major setup work. It's miles ahead of yesterday but looks far from being fully sorted and consistent. Not sure if they are sand bagging, you can't hide an unbalanced chassis. The spring rates and damping seem way off. Just need to find that sweet spot. After watching testing for 3 days I was shocked at how fast the cars are on DTS 😂 long way to go for the new cars. |

1) it's mostly the floor causes the porpoising because that's what stalls, and why floor flex is such a huge issue. 2) the CCS has nothing to do with the side pod going wider, if they wanted to go wider they absolutely can and switch back to conventional radiators which they still have. Or they can just keep a narrow inlet but wider body panels. Literally the best option is to have a super tight packaging and be able to do what you want. Their cooling system doesn't prevent this in anyway. But shouldn't you be happy Merc are struggling? I'm pretty sure they're not sand bagging, this was the same thing with the w12 last year.

Yeah these cars look slow as hell in the slow corners and it's kind of unbareable to watch at times.

I have zero clue. But I'm not certain this technology exists on the w13, since the full sized radiators are still there just deeply recessed.

In other words : Conventional radiators are a lot bigger and wont fit anymore and a complete re-built of the W13's body would be required because this 2022 Mercedes body is extremely narrow ! No way Mercedes can do that , because the winter testing is already over and the first race is next weekend ! No ! I'm not happy ..I want to see dog fights . Just like we witnessed last year like MAX vs HAM ! And I would be very happy to see Ferrari back in the front as well .. Think that Mercedes gambled too much with the CCS cooling in that very narrow rear end .. And currently it looks like Mercedes gambled and lost .. "Gambled and Lost" => When you try to fart hard but end up shitting in your pants !

Actually no, if mercedes wanted a wide side pod design they could have a hollow side pod like the aston martin and mclaren, essentially it is just the body work protruding, the cooling system remains the same. That's the benefit of having such a small engine package it is easy too go bigger just change covers. But it is hard to go smaller.

Maybe, I haven't heard much on the CCS and that might be the false part of the rumor I am not sure. But imo the cooling system wasn't the issue, its the floor stalling causing the porpoising. IIRC mercedes tried to fix this with intial skid plates so when the floor flexed down it could contact the track without damage but also act as a side skirt allowing for supreme sealing and thus alot of down force. However it caused the floor to stall so they added rear floor stays to stiffen the floor. But the issue still persists, so they have to solve that or else they will have to increase ride height and in turn lose alot of performance. How they will sove this I am not sure, but if they can't do it with suspension then they will likely need a new floor with a different geometry of the tunnels that are less suceptible to stalling.
Floor sealing would be important too, because the better you seal the floor the higher your car can ride.

However how long will it take mercedes to do so? Because there are no more tests left, and now they will have to rely on free practice.

There's still a lot that could happen but as of right now I'm pretty confident that we can end up with
1. VER 2. LEC 3. HAM Mercedes is really good at fixing their screw ups so this can change but their car looks like shit right now and if I didn't have CFD or wind tunnels available to me - fundamentally, their sidepod design isn't great. |

IMO it is always the car, no win can win without a good car. Put max, Charles, lewis etc in a Haas and they don't get points.
